Ok. Mine has failed. Turns out it failed in closed position resulting in very rough running of engine fek all power and no idling. BMW sent out recovery as opposed to technician and its now at dealer. No problem.

Will try to pursuade them to leave it disconnected permanently but I dont hold out much hope. They are going to fit a new one under warranty but I don't see the point. I would rather the existing was just knobbled.

How do I disconnect it so it stays permanently open?

If I was going to remove it what diameter tube / wall thickness to use?

Wunderlich do a tube to replace it but it costs 30 euros http://api.viglink.com/api/click?fo...rom-2010.htm&jsonp=vglnk_jsonp_13610391254212

Ta.

I removed mine, fitted Remus headers and an Akro.

Disregarding the function of the flap I personally think it looks awfull. I went to my local bike exhaust company and he made a link pipe out of a off cut of stainless. Runs great looks better no issues.
Think he charged me a tenner.

same ere mate, when i got me keihan headers, i had a word with the gaffa there, and he sorted me out with an offcut, i took the valve to em(as there only down the road from me:D), and they sorted me out a treat

looks, runs, and sounds so much nicer without that piece of shit, it is purely for sound regulation, dont listen to the shit about "its for the valve timing, its for this, its for that":blagblah just do it mate you wont regret it:thumb

Mine was replaced a year ago under warranty & the new one sticks & beeps if not started for a week.

Will it fail an MOT if I bin mine?

No it won't fail an MoT. They won't stick if you put some graphited oil on the pivots (inside that is...) at the start of each season.

There are no formal noise tests for bikes. Yet. Its at the discretion of the tester and a GS with no flaps wont even bat an eyelid.

Good idea.
Have you by chance the dimensions of the tube?
Thanks.

Why not just disconect the cables and leave the flap in the open position

Thanks, I will try that! :beerjug:

To be honest I don't have too much of a promlem with it as long as it works.

Flap is springloaded to open position.

Thx. Will do that for now then. Finally a sensible answer in this thread. :beerjug:

Interesting. When you pay for a service with BMW, are they supposed to lube up the flap?

I had this problem and the widget replaced under warranty. My dealer now lubes it every service (if I remind them) FOC and have had no problems since.
