Fitted remus headers and tail pipe the other week, now I like it but me and the mrs where out and about todays for a few hours and she stated the exhaust was starting to giver her a headache keep popping and banging on over run. Ear plugs are a no go for her, she just cannot wear them full stop, tried all makes shapes etc etc.

Now I have had all the sports bikes and everyone of them did this but not as much as this bike so to speak. Baffle is in aswell with standard air filter.

Thnking of going back to standard rear can if i cannot stop this, any ideas on what if anything can be done, I looked at a power comander but had one of these on my gixxer 1000 and to be fair it did not really stop the popping and banging on over run.

Thanks

Spike

P.S anyone want a remus end can if I cannot get it sorted out???:thumb

I fitted an accelerator module recently and it helped a bit, though it did not eliminate it completely. I was surprised how much the bike popped and banged in standard trim to be honest, thought there was a problem until told different!

One of the many characters of the Boxer. You either love it or hate it :-)

I love it but the wife is starting to hate it.

I did notice it popping and banging in standard trim but never really thought anything of it as it was quiet compared to what I am used too.

You will need to to the standard end can on to calm it down. It will still be there but not so bad. Removing the CAT is the reason for the noisy popping.

A PC will probably help if you go down that route:thumb

Remus vs Akro

the remus end can is reknown for being a bit noisy. the akro can will lower the noise and will look a whole heap better than the standard can too.

all the best.

Leaks in the exhaust system can cause popping in the exhaust.

Look for the valve that sends extra air into the exhaust on the over run. Had this on my Bnadit which I didn't like. Blocking off a valve made sure that the popping stopped.

Its something to do with the fact that unburnt fuel is getting into the exhaust on over run and the extra air makes sure it burns before just entering the atmosphere. Its an emissions thing.

It probably did it with the old exhaust but because its a big un it would be harder to hear.

Its solvable. I don't think it does nay harm to the bike. I did my Bandit 10000 miles ago from new and its still ok. But I did keep my cat.

If I had removed the Cat and replaced the exhaust I would be considering a re tune to check the mixture.

Now you know why the engineers who are paid to design a bike by BMW fitted a normal silencer in favour of a silly noisy one. I guess they do know more than the average chap in the street with a bag of spanners after all.

I have Remus headers and an Akro can with NO baffle and an accelerator thingy. I don't get any popping on the overrun.

Try it without the baffle.

Like Bilco says its the removal of the cat that causes the problem. I've been through the same thing - standard headers no popping / Remus headers popping. Don't think there's a solution as have tried adjusting fuelling , improving the seal, different end pipe and the only way to get rid of the problem is to revert to the standard headers. Standard can will reduce the noise though.

Accelerator module entirely cured the popping of my 2008 with decat headers (I still have stock muffler)

My Mrs also moaned about the popping and banging, it never bothered me though, but the improved low down running with the module was well worth it.

A PC3 will almost certainly get better results (or a remap of the ECU at Hilltop motorcycles) but your looking at the other side of £300 vs £30 for a module which gets >50% of the result for <10% of the cost - worth trying first if cash is an issue.
