Exhaust Valve Eliminator Tube

There is a thread in the mods section - don't know how to link to it. Here is a cut and paste from a post by Gordon T in that thread which provides dimensions......

''Ok chaps. Ive took my flapper valve off (2010 T/cam) to measure whats needed along the lines of a replacement infill pipe. Its a standard gauge stainless steel tube with the dimensions of 63.5mm o/d x 67mm long. Any exhaust shop should be able to cut you a bit off or try ebay for a piece to cut to size yourself. A 1mtr length sells for £28 delivered, so you can make up to 14 out of it if required.''

Good work - just need to remove mine and measure the two OD's to join with this link piece and that's it, apart from finding a nice neat cutting solution as I don't fancy using a hack saw on SS tubing this size if we want a neat edge.

..but I have the standard silencer in the garage loft so there's no need to take the bike apart..just need to get in the loft now.

Any exhaust system builder will be easily able to make these pipes. He will also cut them square - not especially easy with a DIY hack saw and thin walled stainless tube. If needed he will also cut crimping slots so the pipes can clamp together properly. At £30 a metre (£3 a pop plus labour) he wont be charging anywhere near the silly Wunderlich price.

The ECU will show a fault code but its simply logged. It wont stop the bike running normally - as far as we know. Anyone who's had a bike remapped may be able to confirm.

OK. I now have the said exhaust eliminator tubes. A PM will be sent soon to those that have shown an interest on this thread for these. I only have 10 tubes and these are spoken for. Those requesting one are;

Old Wobbly x1
Oldcroc x1
cjw x1
Apw x1
Windy Chuffer x1
Pedro x1
Wilsdorf x2
Marks Adventure x1
Stonehenge x1

Anyone on the list NOT requiring one, please let me know asap.

The tubes are stainless steel and have been cut to 70mm long. The original dimension of 68mm was thought to be too short. They have been cut off on a lathe so are nice and square although there is a sharp rag from the machining that needs to be filed off.

The tools required for fitting, a rubber mallet, T45, T30 and T20 drivers and said tube.

First job, remove the silencer retaining bolt (T45)

Then the two clamps holding the valve. Also T45. After a bit of a wiggle and tugging, you should have something like this.

The valve will be hanging loose whilst the silencer can be placed on the workbench. The tube is knocked into the end of the silencer with the rubber mallet until it can go no further. Mine was tight but went in easily after a slight chamfer was put on the rim of the tube.

Nip the clamp on the silencer slightly and after fastening the exhaust valve up out of the way, wiggle and push the silencer and tube back onto the end of the exhaust.

Even the clamps up at the bottom of the exhuast an nip up the clamps and the silencer retaining bolt. Poor picture but you get the meaning. Thats that bit done.

Next, remove the servo mounting bolt (T30), remove the electric plug and remove the servo. Its on the left hand side. My screw doubles up and holds the tax disc holder.

You should end up with something looking like this.

Remove the two T20 screws on the cover.

It should now look like this.

Remove the two cables and replace the cover. Refit the servo unit back onto the bike, plug the sparks back in and go for a ride. Job done.

For those contemplating removing the cat, I have taken a picture of what you can see in the end of the exhaust. This shows the cat matrix which needs to be knocked out with judicious use of hammer and chisel type implements.

The wieght of the tube v the weight of the valve.

I believe that a fault code will show up on diagnostics only. Nothing has shown up on the dash, so all is well.

Gordon, first of all well done on procuring these tubes and producing a well documented 'how to' guide. I would like 2 tubes please if you are considering commissioning a further batch. How would you like to be paid?

Nice work Gordon - much appreciated thank you and money sent.

Gordon,
If your considering another batch I'd like one also. Should you go ahead pls PM me payment details.

Thx

Stephen

Many thanks for the pictorial as well, wasn't expecting that, so it will save a lot of head scratching and time.

Cheers :beerjug:

Gordon,
If you decide to do another batch I would like one please. Pm me with payment details if you have another batch cut.:thumby:

Fitted my tube tonight - spot on - thanks.

No drama with the ECU and bike runs just fine.

For those about to do the same, you'll need a fairly smooth half round or round file to clean the burrs, a heat gun to heat the silencer where it slides over the eliminator tube just to get it over as it's tight otherwise.

Fits a treat!
