extended insured warranty - options

Isn't that more than 'BMW' direct? But,I suppose you save the ectra cost by not using BMW approved for servicing?

Yes I think it is more than BMW. I believe BMW quote one set price for extending the warranty, whereas Warranty Direct assess each bike. I was asked age, current mileage and what mileage I expect to do next year before I was given a quote. The add in the BMW Journal says from £199 so a newer, lower mileage machine will probably be alot cheaper.

As I understand it I don't have a choice. As I didn't extend the warranty with BMW when it ran out I cannot go back to them now. So I either have to take out a private warranty, or take a chance.

I think the BMW warranty with a new bike does not require BMW dealer servicing but the extended insured warranty, after the original one runs out, does.

I know the legality question was discussed before; IIRC because the requierment to use a dealer is through the insurance, it is permissible.

I just spoke to Mondial (who run the BMW extended "warranty" scheme) today and they confirmed that the European legislation covers only the manufacturers warranty and not the extended warranty which is effectively an insurance policy.
That means that you are not forced to use BMW dealers for servicing or repairs during the initial two year warranty but you are obliged to use a BMW dealer if you take out the extended warranty.
