Extended Warranty

This post may have been covered before but is it worth taking out an extended warranty for a GSA which is now 2 years old?
I have heard that the warranty is only 3rd party, what does this mean and what does it cover?
Also heard 2 prices: £300.00 and £600.00
Anybody got any info about this.

BMW have dropped their extended warranty prices from over £600 to just over £300 depending on excess etc. Took mine out in June and four weeks later the electronics went haywire. Glad I did.

Don't understand what you mean by third party. Have a look at the small print and you will see what you are covered for.

Dont know what the 3rd party means myself but read it on the GS club UK and thats what I'm trying to find out!

It may be 3rd party but that isn't an issue because it's got BMW written all over it. It's probably farmed out to a warranty company but that's normal and you'll be OK with a claim because BMW are backing it.

Beware of any 3rd party warranties which may be cheaper but you will not get the same cover because BMW have a name to protect. If you are unsure about what it covers, download it and read it thoroughly.

Just taken it out for my GS-A and worth every penny IMHO.

It's first party, as it covers your bike, not another person's.

The warranty (it's actually an insurance) is provided by a third party ie. an insurance company. That is no bad thing.

At less than a pound a day (or there abouts) it's a pretty good deal. There again, you have to have it serviced at a BuMW dealer, which costs. If you are going to do that anyway you have lost nothing.

Or you could buy £300 of Premium Bonds, hope for a win and, if you have no problems, cash them in on day 366, getting your money back. Or leave the money in for the next year or pay in another £300. Or, cash them in during the year if you have a problem and stump up the difference.

I'm sure the policy with no excess only comes out at about £40 more than the policy with a £50 excess

A worthwhile investment if you ask me especially as it also includes European Roadside Assistance

I 've been looking at warranty options for the 1150 GSA both with BMW and Warranty Works who I've heard good reports of.

The BMW warranty as has been said is with a 3rd party insurance company but has all the benefits of the original warranty, no limit on any claim and roadside assistance and a cost of £343 for a year. All work and servicing must be carried out at a BMW dealership.

Warranty works have a limit of £1000 for each claim and no recovery at a cost of £255 for1 year, £442 for 2 years and £650 for 3 years.

I have the 3rd year extended warranty from BMW.Cost £362.00 with zero excess and UK/European breakdown cover.So far I have had Mondial out to fit a new FPC,recover me with a puncture that would not seal with my repair kit,and had the rubber joint between the gearbox and swingarm replaced.The bike is further booked in to SSB to have the gearbox oilseal replaced 11 Oct.
All this has cost me £66 so far as i pay monthly by DD.
My personal opinion is that the BMW warranty represents really good value for money,not withstanding the fact the thing should not really go wrong in any case

Thanks all for your advice. Have taken out a warranty with BMW at a cost of £39.00 a month ongoing until bike has done 80,000 miles. No excess but had to pay a little more as original warranty ran out 3 weeks ago.
More or less everythimg covered apart from wearables.

i paid just over £300, but i'm pretty sure there's a £100 excess. i din't see any option for zero excess

They quoted me a number of options recently with different amounts of excess.

Just found out that Warranty Works are not currently offering motorcycle warranties as they are changing the insurance company who underwrite their policies.

Phoned direct to bmw warranties on 0870 5050 195 and spoke to Craig who gave me 3 options of excess;

0 excess
100 excess
250 excess

If anything big goes wrong it going to cost more than £100 anyway!

Thats a substantially better deal than what they offered me a year a go - £650ish quid up front for 1 year. After 5 seconds thought I tore up the letter. One year on and nothing went wrong with the bike which puts me ahead of the game I reckon... (famous last words)

I do not know how they work out the premium.But my dealer did tell me £362.00 without the details of my bike.
I do not know,either,if previous warranty claims have an effect on the premium my machine has had,under warranty.

Just took the warranty out,

£362 for my rt no excess to pay, starts on the fifth of October.

Was surprised corrosion was not covered,

peace of mind again.
