Have just taken out the above as my initial 2 year warranty runs out at the end of this month. The bike a R1200GSA has done 21206, the first owner doing 18000 of that in the first 12 months.

I chose the option where I have to pay no excess should I have to claim ( I think there was only £4 per month difference between this and a £100 excess) and this will cost me £33 per month with the Insured Emergency Service option as well.

I thought about it for a long tim before deciding to commit.....peace of mind I guess and no horrendous bills should be coming my way.

I guess if by the end of 12 months I have made a claim costing more than £426 it was a wise decision :) ..................if however I haven't......then it wasn't :( .

Time will tell.

It worked for me. Recovered in switzerland. Me, my wife and 2 mates put up in a hotel for the night. bike recovered to nearest BMW dealer and part(FPC) replaced. I had to pay for the part and BMW UK reimbursed me :thumb. Top job - oh and a final drive as well:bow

That's odd ............... my 'online quote' came to £362.00 with zero excess which is (I think) the same as it was last year? :augie

Warranty or not to warranty??

have to say i think it is proably a good idea. for my o6 GSA i had to call it in twice. the first time after the final drive seal started to leak a lot of oil in Morroco- sorry i mean the southern most tip of Spain-:augie and had to be swaped in Saville BMW. the job was done within 24 hours of making the call. top service.

the second claim was to replace the corroded cylinder heads. by Southport super bikes, again no hassel just great service.

To contrast I was in France 2 days after the warranty expired, by some strange combination of starting the bike and useing the throttle i blew one of the black plastic air intakes off. i phoned BMW they would not help or let me extend the warranty over the phone but only when i was back in the UK.

by the way dont let the above put anyone off a GSA they are great!!

all the best,

Adam

Couple of points, the extended warranty, or more accurately "insurance" specificly excluded corrosion on the copy I was sent. And secondly, the £426 should include breakdown cover, which helps make it sound less expensive.

All I did was multiply the monthly payment quoted by 12 and it works out at £396.................not £426 as I initially said.....sums never were my strong subject :( . I note that should I wish to pay it all at once it would be slightly cheaper........but can't recall the figure now.

And what is wrong with Dunstable may I enquire??

All answers on a postcard please.

Ian
