Just for info really.

The bike has suffered from the usual (clutch, water pump and rear shock absorber) and the manufacturers warranty expires May 1st so thought I'd better get some form of extended warranty.

Looked very closely at the BMW one and thought it a bit steep at £328 with 100 excess and no breakdown cover. Therefore looked at Warranty Direct and an internet quote came back at £220. That's with no excess, immediate cover for any defect and it also covers wear and tear apart from the obvious such as brake pads. The only down side appears to be an annual £2000 claim limit and a 10,000 mile annual mileage limit.

So temped I even read their T and C's for any get out of jail clauses. Couldn't see any so rang them to discuss and got a phone quote of £199. Therefore gone with them.

Hope I've done the right thing and interested to hear from anyone who has gone the same way and had a good or bad experience.

Many thanks

Sounds good, I will probably be looking for some extended cover soon. My only worry would be the claim limit, £2,000 doesn't seem a lot.

How are claims handled? Do you have to pay and claim back or do you contact the warranty company and they sort it out for you?

Pretty sure it includes full European breakdown cover!

Seemingly they can deal directly with the repairer as long as they are VAT registered.

Another plus is that as long as it is serviced in line with the BMW service schedule it can, if they are also VAT registered, be serviced by a repairer outside the BMW network.

Just like the BMW Extended Warranty Policy then :augie

This is from the BMW warranty T and C's. It does say 'must' and although you might argue that block exemtion applies it might be a risky strategy. Personally wouldn't want to risk it.

1. When servicing your motorcycle, failure to comply with the service schedule recommended by BMW may invalidate this warranty. All service and warranty work must be carried out by an Authorised BMW Dealer or BMW Service Authorised Workshop using only Genuine BMW Parts. Your BMW Service Booklet should be stamped, dated and detailed with the correct mileage at the time of service by the servicing dealer.

It does, but if you like you can delete the European Breakdown cover option and/or you can pay monthly

Yes, but he quoted £328 with £100 excess and no breakdown cover, unless it's gone up an enormous amount in the last year, this can't be right, surely it includes breakdown?

OK ... I will tell you what my BMW Motorrad Extended Warranty T's & C's says

It says the following:

Warranty valid?
The terms and conditions of the
warranty listed below must be adhered
to. Failure to do so will result in the
rejection of a claim or the termination of
your BMW Motorrad Insured
Warranty. This does not affect your
statutory rights.
1. a) Care of your motorcycle - You
must keep your motorcycle in an
efficient and road worthy condition and
regularly service it in accordance with
the Manufacturer’s recommendations
and genuine parts, or parts of equivalent
specification must be used.
b) After each service, please ensure that
the relevant service details are
completed in your service records by
the servicing garage and obtain a receipt
for the service. You must keep all such
receipts for reference in the event of a
claim.

It doesn't say All service and warranty work must be carried out by an Authorised BMW Dealer or BMW Service Authorised Workshop It used to say that in previous T's & C's but it doesn't anymore unless your Warranty Booklet is newer than June 2015 and BMW have moved the goalposts again?

The cost of my current policy which was purchased last year was £365 and that included European Breakdown Assistance/Recovery with a ZERO excess

The subject of BMW Extended Warranties comes up every few weeks

Got the info from the Motorrad web site and must admit I didn't look for the published date so you may well be correct. However the price for cover of £384 with £100 excess and with no emergency cover was obtained today using my bike details and current mileage of 9000.

Apologies £384 was with £100 excess and emergency cover, £328 with £100 excess and no emergency cover.

Just had the following quotes for BMW extended warranty

£0 excess £442 or £41pm
£50 excess £411 or £39pm
£100 excess £385 or £37pm

I will be taking the warranty up when it's due to start in a couple months and although I initially thought it was expensive the head technician from my local dealer said to me that for the price of a mobile phone contract your covering yourself against the possibility of a major failure.

It's all about peace of mind for me.

They did the same for me, £199 for the first year, when the renewal came through the post after 1 year of cover with no claims it went up to £299. I payed a little extra and went back with bmw because claiming if you have to should be a smoother process.

I had the same quote yesterday as I didn't notice mine had elapsed three weeks ago

Sorry I bothered with the thirty thousand mile service and new tyres last month now should of just traded it in

could you please clarify that if you went with an Independent warranty cover IE not the BMW one , can the bike be repaired anywhere ? or just a BMW dealership ? i think the BMW warranty will only cover you at a dealership ?

wonder if you are allowed to use RGM for repairs ?

3rd year warranty DOES NOT cover paint. Just got a quote for 4th year BMW warranty on 14000 mile TE. £384.99 with Euro breakdown, £100 excess. Or just Euro wide breakdown at £142 with no excess. From memory ESA suspension was only covered up to 30,000 miles. Nothing like faith in the parts fitted!!

Just paid £384.99 inc euro breakdown......GSA LC with 36000..... Just had rear suspension replaced before warranty expired which was lucky as extended warranty only covers up to 30000 Miles...... .
