I've just had the form through to extend my warranty as my bike is almost 2 years old. What is the general consensus - get it? Anybody had to use it? Good, bad or indifferent?

If, it's the BMW one, apart from the suspension (sore point) it is very fair.

Just seen someone who admitted to twice over reving their rr (NOT ME) and BMW picked up for both engines under warranty, all he had to pay was labour charges approx £1K each time.

Rather good I'd say.

It really is like any other insurance, if you should need it then it was worth having. If nothing goes wrong then you could have saved your money

The bike is now 4 years old and the warranty has climbed every year, which is expected
This is the first year i have declined it ,

Not on this bike,
Had a breakdown in Spain on an older gs.
Couldn't fault them , but i had to pay it all while over there, then reimbursed when i got home

35 months old gsa lc , under 14,000 miles and needed front/rear ESA shocks and left hand switchgear £3400 plus .....kerching ............... thank heavens for BMW giving me an extra years warranty due to previous ESA issues ................. in my case well worth it .

On my previous gsa tc I renewed the warranty at my cost at 2 years and 3 years old as I was doing two long Euro tours those years .................... never needed to claim for anything on that bike so in an economic sense it was not worth it but it did give peace of mind.

The way I look at it is the BM is a summer toy and for my holidays and I can afford to pay the monthly extended warranty but would struggle to find a larger lump of cash for a major failure on the bike as real life gets in the way.

I do wonder how much goodwill would ever come from BMW in the case you have a serious failure in a component that really should not fail after say 5 years? The reality is that if it does and BMW does nothing to help, assuming you don’t have extended warranty, then they’ve probably lost your custom now and in the future. If they were to calculate your propensity to purchase over coming years you are worth a small fortune to them.

A friend had a 2010 K1300GT earlier this year when left hand switch gear failed. Full BMW service history but no extended service since original warranty ran out and BMW paid half of the £360 cost. Can’t think of another manufacturer who would have done that on an 8 yr old bike!

I bought the extended warranty when my bike was two years old. Six months later (ie now) at the 18000m service they said the pivot bearings needed replacing and this was done under the warranty.

I heard that the first owner of your GSA ran it in properly, and looked after it very well :D

Bloody nice bloke he is, too.:friday:P

I kind of know the answer to that.
I have just given up after a long drawn out dispute with BMW Customer Services over a problem with my wife’s Mini. A bit like comparing apples and pears, but still BMW at the end of the day.
Her car had a broken timing chain guide and tensioner, which was an engine out job, and needed just about everything changed on the head, including a camshaft. The car was out of warranty, 4.5 years old, but only 40k miles. The chain should be changed at 90k miles.
The total bill came to £3000.
As it was out of warranty, I took it on the chin, but asked for a contribution, since the guides are not fit for purpose (a common problem on the Diesel) and should last longer than 40k miles. Even a grand would have done, but no, despite being long term mini owners, they flatly turned us down.
It’s the last time we buy a mini.
Mottorad might be totally different, even the local dealers bend over backwards in terms of customer service, something the car dealers are seriously lacking!
Cheers

I have been very lucky with my interactions with BMW for goodwill on both bikes and cars. It seems to me whether you get it or not entirely depends on the dealer. If the dealer goes to bat for you, you will probably get it. If not then no direct appeals to BMW customer service seem to work.
I have read on this forum of members who have had centre stands replaced after two years due to corrosion which really surprised me. It was one of the few items on the bike I can accept being slightly rashered as the poor things gets a beating from debris flicked off the wheel.

If you are talking about a skinny bald geezer :D that looks like his dog, Errrrr yeah maybe.:green gri.

Only just starting to see some bubbling around the little weep hole on the left hand side of the engine.
It's been to the isle of skye and Gibraltar and only still got 19.5 k miles on it.

They did the top of the forks ,as part of a recall.
Apart from that , consumables pads, tyres,

Watch me go jinx it .:blast
