Hi I'm looking for some help related to extended warrantys, as I am considering buying a used 2017 1200 gs lc privately.
What I would like to know is can I buy an extended warranty if the bike has full BMW service history !.
Also is there some link to the mother ship that I can download and read through the terms & conditions as to what's covered & what's not.

Thanks ,
Ian.

In short, if the bike allrady has an extended warranty, it an be transferred to the new owner

If the bike does not , a new warranty can be purchased.

there are some caveats though.

The bike must be serviced by a BMW service centre to bring it inline with it's service schedule

I believe if it hasn't had an extended warranty from the get go, you cannot opt for the £0 excess package, so the minimum become £50 if i recall

It's about £455 PA all in - warranty £0 excess & European / UK breakdown & recovery

:)

I have the Motorad Insured Warranty. £39.14 a month. Recovery and Continental Europe included. Just has to go to the dealer for a service every year so for me being totally "unmechanical" it has to be worth it.

I was told by BMW warranty that bike does not have to go to BMW anymore. As long as it's serviced at correct intervals by VAT registered garage and you can provide invoices.

Hi, just one other question one of the bikes I am thinking of viewing has still got well over 12 months bmw extended warranty.
Am I right in thinking this can be transferred to the next owner & is the process straight forward.

Thanks,
Ian.

Sorry to be brief, others will explain more, but yes and yes

Thanks again for the helpful replys, in my search through the bike adverts I had got my eye on two r1200gs 17reg both used approved bmw dealer bike's, when I went online and checked the MOT history of the bike's both bike's had failed there first MOT on the same item "rear brake failing insufficient brake force.
One of the bike's also failed it's second MOT on " brakes excessively binding + front pads below 1mm".
Now I realise the rear pads are prone to wearing out quickly due to the linked braking system but what I don't understand is these used bike's being bmw approved etc suposidly have had a full bmw service history so why haven't the brake / calipers etc been maintained !.
Ian.

I think the rear brake is a common problem quite often with "excessive travel' The dealer will sometimes bleed it free of charge and you get a better pedal feel for a while but the vague feeling usually reappears if it's jnside BMW travel "parameters" they won't do it

I've copied this from a reply I put elsewhere but it may also be useful here.

Having read the latest Policy Document it would appear that the age of the bike is no longer a consideration. The 3 requirements appear to be:-
1) Less than 80,000 miles at time of renewal.
2) Must have been serviced by a V.A.T. registered business.
3) Be an ongoing insurance without having lapsed at any point (I.e. if I don't renew by the 2nd October I won't be allowed to renew at a later date).

Just to add little meat to the bones my bike is 11 years old and I have been invited to renew the warranty once more.
