Bought an External Dual Layer DVD writer from Aldi Market.(cheapskate)
Will read ok but as soon as i put a cd or dvd in it and try to burn something a little box comes up saying 'incorrect'.
It is compatible with all types (R,RW ,+, - etc. It is a Gericom which i think is something to do with Samsung.I am sure you don't have to use dual layer discs with it.
Computer is up to spec and have called the help line which was no help at all really.Just thought i would try on here first before i take it back.
Any of you technos have an idea ?

Thanks !

i bought an in car cd player from aldi recently. it was better after i took it back & i had the money in my pocket again.

what's the connection for it - USB 2.0 or Firewire?

If it is USB 2.0 and you've plugged it into a USB 1.0 or 1.1 port then you may be getting problems due to data speeds.

There is also the question of what software you are using to write to the thing - if it is the standard Win XP drag and drop that may not understand the R and RW function of that particular model. Try using something like Alcohol 120% to put the data on it (their trial is fully functional and free) and see if that either (a) fixes it or (b) gives a more helpful error message.

Otherwise, it's the cookie solution.

Tried USB port 2.0 and firewire.Installed Nero that came with it.So it could be money back in my pocket ! I can never get these things back in the box as they came.Something to do with patience i think !

Cheers !
