Test rode both today, ST3 first, then F650GS.

I knew the ST3 would be faster and more "fun" - it has a motor to die for (why don't Triumph market a mini Tiger?). The heart says Triumph.

The head was saying F650GS (hard luggage option for riding to Spain this summer, big front screens available for wind protection - neither available for the ST3).

What really surpised me was how much fun the 650 was and it was quite nippy too!

After much careful thought and at least two test rides on each, providing my 1150 sells, I'm going to buy a F650GS!

Thats the same decision my wife made. We both had a test ride on the Street triple and later compared notes.
Yes its great fun, full throttle out of the bends, hard on the brakes line up for the next apex etc. After a few hours of riding like that its time to head for home through heavy traffic in the cold and wet. Thats when it hits you just how dull the bike is if you are not playing hard. The exhaust note which sets a tingle up your spine on full throttle becomes a mind numbing drone. The steering lock and harsh suspension are suddenly noticed and become annoying.
Its a great bike, one I would love own if my riding was a 50 mile blast to the local biker cafe, but I want more than it offers. The F800gs or 650gs do not give the same adrenalin hit as the triple but are much more satisfying to ride over time and long distances.
Short rides, no touring, buy the Triumph.
For distance, touring and versatility buy the GS.
We ended up with her F650GS and my F800GS ( After 18 months with a Kawasaki Versys)

I cant coment on the triumph as its not for me, but the triple is a fantastic looking bike, my brother inlaw bought a 1050 two weeks ago he was thinking about it for a while (had an 04 bonny before) I get a text saying I couldnt help my self:blast then a picture the bright light green three into one arrow can. It sounds fantastic 120 BHP. his wife is yet to pillion on it.(previouse owner had it for solo riding, rear pegs removed and solo seat. But he is saying now hes not sure if its for him:blast :blast

The F650 :thumb i like it you can personalise them so much or leave them standard depending on your wants, needs and available money.:D

My F650 has changed so much in height and comfort etc etc etc when it goes in for a service now I have a standard F650gs loan bike to remind me how it was. but its just a personal thing:thumb i'm in my second year and im still pleased with my choice still got things I want to add, improve, and most important still feel its a keeper:thumb

Have you test ridden the F800GS just to be sure to be sure ? :aidan
