I am interested in the F800GS Adventure but don't like the front end styling. Has anyone replaced the front end plastic with that from a standard 800GS?

I have one and am wondering what you are thing of swapping? JJH

I know it's a personal thing but I don't like the way the front end has been bulked out. If I were to buy one I'd want to swap out the large side panels for those from a standard 800GS. No doubt that, in addition to staying in keeping with the 1200 Adventure styling, the panels improve wind protection but I didn't find that an issue in my previous F800GSs (running an K1300R at the moment).

Yes but what about the front bars will they look awkward? I haven't got my bike in front of me but it just feels right the way it is. That's obiously a personal thing but if I was to spend money on it it would go on forks. JJH

I am getting a bit out of my depth as I have not ridden the 800 Adventure (yet) but the forks on the standard 800GS were a good compromise for Tarmac verses fire roads and the like and performed well when I used them on Salisbury Plain and Wales- not as good as my old KTM Adventure but not at all bad. Perhaps the centre of gravity is slightly different on the 800 GS Adventure?

Don't know about that. It is heavier and with me on much more so. Let us know how you get on. JJH

Big, 7" headlight and flat 'bars would look cool.

They would and, now you mention it, the F800GS is a candidate for some interesting customisation! I would be looking for mods that retain the dual-sport aspects of the bike but mods in the area recently promoted by Ducatis Scrambler may well provide a range of interesting bikes.

It is. The one-piece fairing/tank put me off a bit, but then I went with the R in the end, so no probs.

Brilliant bikes! I know two people with the F800R and both are very happy people. I've ridden my partners a number of times. That surge in power as you reach 6000 revs is amazing and it's so agile. I ride the K1300R myself at the moment which has similar styling.

Have a dig around on REALOEM.COM

from their exploded diagrams of the two models, you should be able to get a good idea of the parts you'd need and how involved the job would be :beerjug:
