Hi Guys.
I don't post much but read loads.
I feel its time to let everyone know how much fun this little bumble bee has been over the last 3 years.
Condsidering i have had numerous bikes over the last 30 years or so.. (dont consider me old, just experienced) this little bike just begs to be used.
I have a really clean low milage K1200s sat alongside the Gs but i've still managed to cover 12,500 miles on her in rain, sun & snow.
Been over the uk & europe, on & off road, fell off at slow speeds loads, always surprised to find only the odd scratch on crash bars etc.
She has done me proud with minimal problems once the initial running in settled down, the biggest p**s me off was the battery dying whilst in for the chain recall & had to pay the £99 to replace it 1 day out of warranty.
I shall be sad to see her go.. but happy for my new yellow GSA to arrive on saturday from southport superbikes. (excellent deal from a dealer so far from my home)
Anyway, i wanted to let u know i was tempted away from BMW, i really like the look & ride reports of the Ducati multistrada 1200 touring, £14,750, so in BMW price bracket or above..
i have been hanging my liver for one for months, inspected, scrutinised, road tested.. Fantastic full power, but in traffic snatchy & twitchy compared to my own F800, also very squat & low for filtering, i also got aching left thumb operating the indicators after very few miles, unlike the BMW paddle switch gear that is so easily operated with gloves on. (things we take for granted)
Anyway..
Then.. i got back on my F800gs & within less than a mile i decided the Ducati was NOT gonna be coming home with me, but, oh the looks.. fantastic, but build quality & bent legs i thought would soon give me buyers remorse.
Then.. armed with £15k budget the wife had allocated for the duke, set off to buy another F800gs, stumbled upon Triumph then another BMW dealer, the bright Yellow demo bike got me looking, got a trade in deal organised, happy with the deal, also got offered discount, but the trade in is always easier..
Then.. Road tested the demo ADV, adjusted the seat, & handlebars, in fact scrutinised everything in sight, rode it through one of the windiest & patchy cloudburst days we have had for months, it gave me insight into how the screen, wind & water protection for me on long distances would work, i was happy..! I was also amazed how stable the bike was in the wind compared to the others i tried.
So, Today, Monday evening, i leave this little twin thread to the 1200 section.
keep ur eyes on ebay for my extras, i have the comfort seat, panniers, top box, loads of touratech bits, Hid spot lights & brackets that turn night into day..
Oh, one more thing, i have carefully looked after my 800Gs & i personally think its as good today after 3 years as a 3 month dealer demo bike that never seen WD.40 or polish.
56mpg average is also a nice feeling in my pocket. :)
That gentlemen & ladies is why i'm having another BMW.

Nice feeling when you're content with your bike eh? :ChrisKelly

Yep, nice feeling, I hope the next one will be just as good, my expectations are high.. First job will be to give the new bike a fighting chance against corrosion, strip & lube the hidden bits from new. Can't wait.. :beerjug:

I have just gone the other way:clap
From a lardy 2010 ,1200 Gsa with all the toys

And i can pick it up when it finds the floor !!

Best of luck to you enjoy

Hi Bill..
The comfort seat is the Bmw one, still got box but am away from home working till after weekend, will post info but i think i'm gonna ebay most of the bits, no reserve but will be open to bids for a quick sale..
i live in Louth but work in nottingham so delivery or collection easy ish..

On another note, my bumble bee looks bare & naked with these useful bits removed.

Shan's Diet

Hi Shan..
it's something i'm already thinking..
But..
U know i never had a BMW GSA & i think as i loved the F800gs so much i gotta try one.
I too have dropped both bikes many times, always slow speed or off road, i think when i last toppled off a GSA i heard my ass cheek muscles pull as i got it upright, when ur alone its gotta stand up again..

Ps.. i love the anniversary bikes, didn't know they did one till all sold out, i think they will hold their value for a long time.. I asked dealers for old stock but NO chance.
Enjoy..

Comfort Seatl

Definitely interested if you let it go on this site. Going away in a couple of weeks could do with it for then.

My story was the opposite! Had a new GSA but swapped it in for the GS8 for a number of reasons but mainly my continual numb hands which I couldn't resolve. No problem on the 800.
Good luck with the new bike.

Hi dogman, just collected my new GSA, defo more vibrations through the handlebars & also the seat.. Already thinking how to stop the handlebar vibrations..
Any help anyone.?

I agree, it was a great move :D Done over 1000 miles on it now, had it serviced, and I can pick up my 1150ADV no sweat so the 1200 is gonna be a doddle :thumb
Off to Le Mans on 10th June then touring round France for a few days...can't wait.

Snaponphil,
I'm sure the last thing you need is a load of people telling you that they have sold the GSA to get a G800 but the bars problem really was an issue for me so much so it had to go. I tried all sorts but couldnt sort it.
You could try Grip Puppies which I think did help a bit. Others have changed the position of the bars back a bit to rest the arms a bit more to allow more blood flow. Good luck mate, hope it dont ruin the experience of what is otherwise a fantastic bike.
:D

Small to BIG ish..

Hi, no problem with the change down, I changed up a size or 2 cos I'm taking some time off work to tour & live off my bike a bit, I over loaded my F800gs last time & it made it very heavy, in comparison the GSA I just got home seems reasonably nimble, I'm pleasantly surprised, also the vibes don't seem as bad today, but I did 450 miles yesterday in bad weather, I got cold & wet hands as I took the protection off my bike to take it to dealers for part X.

Regards. Phil

Comfort Seatl

Phil,

Have you made a decision to sel the seat, or is it going on ebay?

Thanks

Also leaving F800 to 1200GSA

Somewhat nervous about the decision as my F800GS has been a brilliant bike during the 2.5 years & 17k miles I've owned it. Totally reliable, unbelievably economical, low servicing costs from BMW dealer and hugely capable. It is without doubt the best all round bike I've ever owned (apart from the hard seat - sorted with comfort seat) and I will be sorry to see it go. Very. But I can't afford two bikes hence it's been PX'd for a 2011 GSA which I collect tomorrow. Reason for the swap is simply wanting a change and the fact that my other half said she would come pillion occasionally if I had a big comfy bike. Looked at Multistrada as seems so good on paper but I just can't trust my hard earned cash on a bike which in my heart I believe will fall apart and give me no end of trouble, thus depreciate heavily too. Looked at 1200RT SE and while it looks perfect for touring and a dream for a pillion, I just can't bring myself to go that route just yet despite it's incredible track record and hardcore following. Beside the GSA it just seemed a bit too refined and frumpy for my liking.

I've never really fallen in love with the 1200GSA but it's a big comfy bike with a big squashy pillion cushion, now well sorted as it nears the end of the current model production life and everyone tells me it's a bike that grows on you. Time will tell.
