This seems to be a problem as time goes on with the cam chain tensioner mechanism (hydraulic tube and spring).
I ordered one set (tensioner and spring) almost 10 weeks ago and, at first, was told it was discontinued and the factory would no longer offer the parts. They later retracted that statement for obvious reasons and told me the piece was being re-designed and would be manufactured and offered for sale at some point in time. The BMW parts supply problem has been addressed previously, and in some countries, Motorrad does not supply the part, you cannot get one unless you order it from another country. I was told (but I don't put a lot of faith in this) that the new design had a new price (no surprise there) but it seemed to incorporate the spring as part of the new design.
I am still awaiting delivery of the piece and it is now 2 and a half months.
On some other forums I have mentioned this and plan on doing a complete A-B comparison between the two pieces when I get the "new" one and take out my "old" one. I am changing it as a preventive maintenance measure. I, too, have been told that as long as the tensioner functions shortly after start up (it seems to bleed down when sitting awhile) there is no problem.
So, perhaps BMW have addressed this problem and are fitting a new design to the new model F8 and F7 bikes? Or perhaps they are simply bullshitting me because they have left the parts bin low and got caught out with no supply?
Who knows?
