actualy 10 is never enough the list is never ending, but its just an opinion :beerjug:

for me: first thing = safety:

1-put YELLOW bulbs in front lights to jolt up those sleepy cardrivers that come out of their driveway,

2- Louder horns, twin with relay.

3- Tyres that GRIP when wet, for me the TR91 dunlops do just that.

4- Reflective strips on side and back of panniers, and choose clothing that can be SEEN, so NOT black. Helmet should be white or silver or, best, yellow.

5- replace head-bearings asap if your wheel is out for tyre change.

6- replace chain. a disaster waiting to happen.

My bike 'Hitch' and the mods. My favorite top 5, in no order are probably:

Twalcom Aux Spotlights
Barkbusters Hand Guards
Rox Risers
Touratech Zega Pro Luggage
Sgt Seat

SWMBO'd has a 650GS, and the first things she has done are

1) Adventure Spec crash bars - tested when she lost her footing on gravel in town the other day
2) Brake Pedal Extender - now she can find the rear brake pedal
3) Mudsling/Fender Extender - keeping loads of cack off the shock/oil filter
4) HeadLight Guard - Plastic jobby, have you seen the price of a new headlight
5) Optimate Lead wired directly to the battery - no more taking the fake tank cover off

Dave, you don't need to wire the charger directly to the battery, you can use the AUX 12V female plug on top of the "tank", as long as you switch the charger on before you switch the bike off, this will stay open. I use it all the time.

1) Adventure-spec crashbars/ crashbars

2) Seat (still have to do my own)

3) Lights; HID bulbs or add spotlights + headlight plastic guard ('got a stone chip & then split across both main & dipped. Replacement is not cheap £250odd)

4) High-screen

5) GPS

----Continued----

6) Rear pannier rack (Luggage basically inc) gives added protection for rear if you lay it down.

7) Your own exhaust choice / full exhaust kit even better

8) Upgrade forks & rear spring if mullah allows!

9) Upgrade all indicator bulbs with LED inserts.

10) Tracker unit. (Some people glue there spare key too the bike, funny! We are talking not going abroad either.)

11) Lockable oil filler cap, stop the possibility dead with a key...that you must not lose.

Five musts

If you have a 30yr keep it clean
1, fender extender on the front
2, mudsling on the back

If you ride it
3, scottoiler

If you ride it at night
4, Philips Crystal vision bulbs

If you ride and and want to save fuel
5, F650GS front sprocket

That's the musts, then it gets silly when you want all the other bolt on goodies. My Anni has touring goodies bolted on (inc. Autocom, panniers, sat-nav, tank bag, topbox etc. etc.

Top bike, and you get used to the seat if you give it time :)

Just added a F800GS 30 Year to my collection, and was wondering are there any must have mods people could recommend?

Chain and sprockets sorted by the time the 30 year came out, So.

1. Make sure your top hose is secure, then check it every time you ride!:)

2. Change the seat. :rob

3. Make sure you've got the proper fuel guage software.

4. Change your rear wheel bearings. :augie

5. Then just thrash it.

How do you check you have the proper fuel gauge software?

Fuel gauge mods??? Yes I have the latest and its no better. Much more reliable to use the trip meters and plan to fuel at 170 to 200 miles.

Mine as follows;

1) Adv Spec crashbars
2) F650GS front sprocket
3) Screen of your choice - I have a Wunderlich Ergo Vario
4) Some form of luggage - I have Vario rear luggage and Famsa tankbag
5) Lighting - I have a HID dip beam and plan on BMW K1600 LED lights

No - the auxiliary fog light doo-berries similar to the 1200GS models, but in LED format. Only about £80 each from BMW. There's a thread somewhere...

Ahh...

http://www.cwmotorcycles.co.uk/new-sales/tour/k-1600-gtl

£335 as a factory fit option...

RealOEM doesn't show a price.

They look pretty cool but i'm surprised they moved away from the uber-cool cast aluminium arm/bracket that someone posted about before. The arm they use there looks a like a bit of an afterthought especially considering how well the bike appears to be finished.

OP sorry for going off topic - i've got the 650 and IMO best mods so far are

- Crash bars (wunderlich adventure, i think)
- Bark Busters (dread to think how much i would have spent on levers so far!)
- Osram Night Breaker bulbs (i didn't want to get into the whole HID thing if i didn't hve to and with these, i don't think i ever will)
- I think it'll definitely need a new screen if you want to go touring. I tried loads and have ended up going for the more expensive ones. Currently on the third most expensive one, the MadStad...
- BMW LED indicators. Can be retro fitted. About £100 for four. I did a post somewhere here a while ago...

Best of luck,

S
