Anybody know if theres any difference between a factory fit alarm, and one fitted retrospectively at the dealers. I was wondering if it was just a case of a plug in module/wireing, or is there some cutting and shutting involved with the loom ? if fitted retrospectively ?.

Factory fit, or retrospectively, ?Difference, or no difference ?

Obviously if you are thinking about the BMW alarm then the fitting is modular and the connections are already in place. The bike system needs to be 'informed' by the dealer doing a software input then away you go. Other makes of alarm... don't know, but if you have a late model bike with the canbus wiring system then there maybe compatibility issues.

Thanks for that, I'm about to pick up a new bike, and I'm not sure if they have forgot to order the alarm when ordering the new bike, and I think they are going to fit it at the dealers. And so was wondering if the fitment would be any different than if had been fitted on the initial build at the factory.

By the way, where in Cumbria are you ?

well well, I'm in Barrow, and you will see from my avatar I describe cumbria as the real Northwest. I used to visit the monthly northwest meets, but for some reason it seemed to be hijacked by a few who lived in and around cheshire, and the meets seemed to be getting further south every month, how the hell they can describe south manchester and beyond as the northwest is beyond me, I gave up in the end, as I say it seems to be a small group way way south of here who obviosley dont know where the northwest of England is even if you calve the british isles up on a map in front of them they still wont have it, Any way didn't know you were about, I'm in Rampside have had one of the fast yellow ones since 2004, and will be picking up a new Rallye on saturday. I work in the newish building parked in the channel on the end of Roa Island, the one with the boat in it , maybe you know where that is, pop in for a cuppa if you do

Yes I picked your North West battle up from the meetings thread - hence my oblique reference to it. Your work place doesn't enjoy Sovereign patronage does it? If so I know one or two people who used to work there from time to time... Where are you getting the new bike from? I have used Jefferies for my last few purchases and have found them to be reasonable and supportive on a few occasions where I have needed warranty work.
