Hi All, I followed the Dakar Rally last year and enjoyed it a lot, 3 rally days and then a trail over the Atlas to Marrakesh...it was awesome.
While planning a repeat trip, i found that there is no ferry s running after the new year to get you into Spain before the rally starts. The 1500 miles from Calais to Algerceiras is not much fun!!!!
At least by halving the distance on a ferry you can charge your battery's.
Last year we used Acconia ferrys, i remember the rough crossing through the bay of Biscay, there must be a easier way to get you bike to Africa so....

So i have organized a 7.5 ton tail lift Lorry to carry my bike and others from North London to Jerez airport southern Spain, were we can fly in on Ryanair cheep flights( £80 return) to begin our trip. The lorry will stay in Spain for 11 nights and wait for us to return.
Best of all you can save the 3000 miles of trudge through france and spain,
Remember weather in france in January can be v.cold!

start Morocco fresh.

Collect your bike from the airport in Jerez on the 4th January then you can get into Morocco in time to enjoy Morocco ,before following the Rally via Errachidia-Ozuarate-Tantan,have time to enjoy west coast then via Marrakesh blast up the coast back to Spain for the flight home, 14th January ish.
Return date is provisional at moment .
If anyone is interested in booking a space on the lorry please reply.
Price to be finalized but do the maths ,3000miles wear and tear on you and your bike, fuel, tolls, ferry, accommodation while traveling...hours of your life!
Your bike will be professionally loaded both ends.

Hi Bryan,
Kirsten and my good self are planning to cross to Spain, Portsmouth/Plymouth to Santander/Bilboa hoping to get to Lisbon 4 the start of the rallyand follow it over to Morocco for a couple of days before separating and seeing a bit of Morocco, then going on our merry way 4 our year out. If you fancy it we could try and meet up for the rally days.

I am interested in the transport to Jerez but I am not planning to return to the UK until March (riding down to Mali and maybe as far as Benin - going to just see how it goes..). If you have room, I would be happy to join in and spend the first few days with the Rally. If you have loads of take-up and there is no space then I will revert back to plan A - Eurotunnel to Calais!

Looks like there could be a number of gser's there, as three of us are trailering the bikes to spain after boxing day (always think the time @ xmas is wasted ) & since the kids have grown up :bounce1

Realy looking forward to it :thumb2

gives me a goal to save for I suppose

Bike transport for Dakar 08/ Adventure, interested!!

Provisional plans for the Dakar Rally Trip are as follows.
WE now own the 7.5 Mercedes lorry with Tail lift.
We Have a Secure Yard were the Lorry will be kept ,Yard is located at our Glendale Forge premises, Thaxted,Essex, half hour from Stanstead Airport. The bikes can be loaded during the days after Christmas and the new year. You can over see the loading and be happy your bike is ready for the 1500 mile trip down to Jerez,Spain.

The Lorry leaves 2nd January and will be driven down to the Airport of Jerez were you can unload your Bike and start the Adventure. The lorry stays in Spain ( secure private Yard with Driver) and waits for the Bikes to return on 14th January giving you time to follow the Rally and explore Morocco on the way back. Should you decide to return earlier the Lorry and driver will be available to load your bike . Bikes return in u.k back to the Glendale Forge Yard and can be collected from the 16th january. Transport is flexible should you wish to start your journey in Portugal or Northern Spain, let me know.
Price of transport will depend on numbers but it is going to be less than the cost of your bike fuel, tolls ,accommodation,ferry,4 days wear and tear....
Please contact me for further details, regards Bryan Rooke @
