INSTRUCTIONS FOR FITTING THE RADIATOR PROTECTORS the new R1200GS LC
Hi dear customer – these puppies have got to be some of the nicest `weapons grade eye candy` I have come up with for a while. I hope you ain`t disappointed with them as they will offer a not unreasonable amount of protection and will look stunning. To fit them isn`t difficult and all you will need is a Torx T bar (or similar), a little time and some brains.
Firstly make sure you have got the left hand and the right hand sorted so you don`t end up trying to fit them wrong and feeling an arse. The following image on the left shows them in relation to each other and they go on the bike (isn`t the new LC stunning?) as if you were looking from the front. The one on the right shows them fitted. Note the direction of the flaps.

The next thing you need to do is to `form` the flaps – this is so the protection surface is moved away from the cooling surface thereby enhancing cooling yet still offering not unreasonable protection. You do this by using the Mark One Hand and gently (gently mind, I`m watching…) pushing the panel out to the desired angle. I strongly suggest 25 degrees and I have included a little tool so that you may gauge that as follows.

I suggest that you always reform the panels if they suffer an impact as part of the idea of having them out at an angle is to absorb some of the impact with the `spring` rather than transmit the impact energy directly to the radiator. And I accept this won`t necessarily work if you hit a deer but should do for most flying debris.
Once the panels are set then remove the 2 radiator cowls. This is done by removing the three Torx fasteners, two on the outer sides of the cowl and one at the bottom. Once they are removed the cowl can be removed. Note – it’s held in place at the top by two little tabs so you need to jiggle and pull down if you see what I mean. You can see the locating tabs on the image on the left. Now you need to fit the protector to the rear of the cowl as shown on the left – once in position it should fit perfectly – if not something is wrong!
The next job is to refasten the cowl, with the protector, onto the bike so that it looks like the image on the right. Make sure you don`t over tighten the three fasteners or you will feel an arse again.

As an `aside` your protectors have been laser cut and finished by hand by me (to remove all sharp edges), so no 2 covers are the same – you`ll also find my signature and the date I made it on it somewhere (if I have remembered!). Enjoy the fact that this did not come from China and there are not another 5 million in circulation exactly the same.
And finally DO NOT fit these if your bike is hot – you may suffer a burn so wait till it cools down eh?
