Fault history on my 11 month old R1300GS TE

JDS.. Sorry to hear about all the problems you had with your r1300 gs.. As things have now settled down for you? When I decided to trade my r1250 rs for the new r1300gs.. I was concerned about future recalls so did leave till May 2024 before I traded my r1250 in for the r1300gs hoping the first bunch had most or all of the faults have been sorted out.. up to now after 1,500 miles had no problems.. it did have the starter relay replaced before I took delivery.. had no problems with the start button.. having said that.. not been in heavy downpours but my r1300 gs is booked in for the right hand switch gear to be replaced.. I understand it's not under a recall.. BMW decided to call it a enhancement.. don't really care what they call it providing it's still starts after it rains.. lol...

This is shocking. You must be absolutely fuming!

I (genuinely) don’t seek to pour scorn onto your situation, but if I added up all of the faults on both of my 1150’s over the years, they wouldn’t amount to as many as you’ve suffered. Whatever you decide to do, good luck.

Yes but to be fair.. Technology is far more advance now so obviously more things to go wrong.. all the new bike models suffer these Teething faults.. but JDS seems to have had is more than fair share.. at the very least BMW should offer him some kind of compensation as his reported problems have help with the later build models..

Same is true of my old airhead R100GS which I’ve been running for 34 years. Hate fucking software and I used to do it for a living - probably why I moved to France and became a builder which may seem a bit extreme and not a route I’d expect any 1300GS owner or potential owner to take. I got really pissed off taking my new K100RS back to the dealer to get the speedo working especially when I got nicked for doing 40 in a 30 whilst I was on my way. My new telly has an AI processor which hasn’t gone wrong yet (only had it 2 days) but what was I thinking when I bought it.

The longer you leave it the harder it will be to reject it.
Even now after all this time I suspect you’ll struggle to do so if that’s what you were considering doing.

Had to look this up. If it works as described-WOW! I like the instant translate and transcribe content? Great for YT content.

I have had my 1300gs te since January and have covered 14000kms with only starter relay changed
Although I don’t own a charger and my bike doesn’t have the adaptive cruise control

250 miles with 2 stops in 7 hours and no more faults
I have similar problem with my TFT screen on my two week old 1300GSA - Rev range goes red, no rear lights, no horn, no indicators, no speed showing. Has your dealer now got to the bottom of the problem? If so what did they do / replace? Thanks

I changed my bike for a new 1300 GS in December. I got a good deal and a goodwill contribution from dealer.
Virtually the same bike but without radar. I fitted Innovv third eye instead of having radar.

Bmw Motorrad UK were very unhelpful and would not even compensate for a £1050 service plan.

No explanation or reason for problems unfortunately. They don’t know basically.

In hindsight, I should have completely rejected the bike earlier instead of giving them a chance.
I would do that without hesitation in future. I bought the bike to do miles in my retirement and although I did 14k in 11 months, fault lights and blank TFTs were a constant cause of stress.

Software updates did not work, nor did change of battery to AGM.
Other people have had the TFT changed and I think have been ok since.

Good luck.

Far too many electronic gadgets on these big expensive modern bikes for me. That's why I see my RE Interceptor as a breath of fresh air. The only issue I had was cutting out in the first hundred or so miles, that was easily cured by cleaning the the excessive grease off the relays.
I dread my Moto Guzzi V85tt getting software issues as its a fair haul to the dealer, 6000 mls 18 months been OK so far. (that'll be the kiss of death then:D)

Got rid of my 1300 after a few months as BMW refused to deal with the brake issues I had , tried to reject it but they said no as they felt no problems. (load of bollox) so decided to go back to Ducati . No issues at all even with all the electronic some worry about , great bike the V4 Multi.
I lost a load of money on the 1300 and the way the sales team were at the dealers I would struggle to go back to BM now. Ducati are great to deal with .

Modern motoring seems to come with the caveat that you need to have a decent warranty tucked in your back pocket as these premium bikes get more and more complicated, dealer hourly rates soar through the roof, and also the component quality becomes more compromised in the search for profits.

Maybe we need to start demanding longer warranties from new, and if they have faith in their product, why not.

I bought an approved used 2016 LC at the start of covid

In the three years i managed to own it, it spent 18 months in the dealers having fault after fault fixed,

i worked it out, Every 12 weeks a component failed !

Resulting in min 2 weeks in the dealership to a eyewatering 7 months waiting for parts!!

The final straw was it breaking down on the way to have a retro fit of accessories

i left it at the dealers and told them i didn't want it back

I paid 8.5K and gave it away for 4K

Fuel filler pot

LH switch assy

Throttle assy

Throttle wiring

Rear shock

Cam sensor

Rear shock

Main ECU

Fuel pressure regulator

Throttle Body

And even with a 2 year and extra years warranty it still cost me 1K of my own money

If you can, Buy new. Second hand you are going in blind. (y)
EDIT : In fact, That's why I've not purchased a second hand bike in over 30 years. If the bike gets fucked up, I fucked it up (y)
It will be the owner after that will be posting on forums crying like a bay :D

God, I hope this new 13GSA doesn't let me down :hide

Ducati have a 4 year one , for me its a no brainer . New is best if you can .

Must admit with the ever-escalating cost of dealer servicing I'd be closely checking for evidence of dealer or mechanic servicing if I was considering a 2nd hand bike. Having seen some nightmares I'd not accept a home serviced bike.

With an industry which is struggling, using your dealer is a positive, keeps jobs, job done right and also build relationships with staff . It’s a cost that I accept due to my love of bikes and also a reliable one lol 😂

Both my salesman, and service manager left within weeks of each other. :tears

Richard, I had exactly that when my lithium battery failed. BMW diagnostics confirmed the issue.
