Hiya, have read about checking the FD bearing by removing the seal, just wondered if there was a "recommended" maximum mileage before changing the bearing?

If it aint broke don't fix it. If your concerned just carry a spare. FWIW very few just "go". If you check before any major journey and see the cage cracked then you'll know if it needs replacing.

There's two schools of thought on this.

I've never had one fail in 10 years of 1150 ownership.....but I change it at 20/30k miles.

Checking it by removing the seal only shows one side of the bearing but that's better than nothing.....50%ish better:augie

unless your preparing for some big runs then dont bother:augie however for the sake of peace of mind ans a £8 seal then its worth a look:thumb2

as for mileage , theres no ryme or reason for when the go,,mine popped its bearing cage at 19k:blast

fairly simple to replace to:beerjug:

Mine went at 36K:rolleyes: and AGAIN:tears at 43k!

At 50,000 km so around 36,000km,s the seal wept so I changed the bearing not the seal  at 105,000 km,s neither seal nor bearing shows issues and a high proportion of my km,s are off tar... sand and gravel mainly :beerjug:

mine went at 44 thou
dealer replaced bearing and oil seal

10 miles later

goes again:mad:

end up with dealer having to replace whole rear drive due to the damage caused first time round:eek:

a lot of money later and i have a brand new rear end
