Just a quick question, is it possible to fit a non ABS FD to a bike which has ABS? To clarify a bit more, will the ABS components from the ABS unit transfer over to the non unit. The reason I ask is I have a non ABS FD which needs a new seal behind the rotor but otherwise is in good nick, just deciding if it will be any use to me as a spare (once a new seal is fitted of course) to have sitting on the shelf? Oh 2004/5 model.

cant answer specifically but there seems to be differences between years never mind anything else. They changed parts which give the signal to the brain so not only will breaks stop working but the speedo does too.

The year is the same, it's just one with ABS one without.

Given that the rear wheel sensor is used both for the speedometer and the optional ABS I would imagine that there's nothing to transfer. It should fit and work, assuming both FDs are from the same year. Watch out for later versions with different ratios for 2008 onwards and watch out for some late 2006/2007 items with the drain plug where it ought to be. Mine (2006, with ABS) had the FD swapped by a dealer and th new one has the proper drain plug and everything works.

Thanks guys, I've made a puller to get the flange off so I can fit a new seal, the dealer wanted £214 to fit a new seal, that was with me bringing in the FD loose off the bike, what do they take me for, a Harley rider :nenau

Apologies for posting here but I no longer have access to for sale section, and as I have sold my BMW I am not re-subcribing.
