The motor and wiring were all burnt out. I'm gonna complain to AEG...seems a bit dodgy to me.
Still got to buy another one this weekend though..

Franco,
You got awat light ! My sisters dishwasher (Miele) nearly burnt her house down. Her 19 year old daughter smelled smoke and got everyone up. From the front garden they called the fire brigade and waited and watched !!! Lucky for her the fire station is only three miles away. NEVER EVER put the dishwasher on at night !

Hence the saying,

"Dishwasher at night Fireman's delight, dishwasher in the morning Fireman finds boring"

Bloody hell. Just shows you, I'd have thought "quality" brands like AEG (ours) and Miele were safer. I'm more inclined to do Fanum's plan of getting the cheapest I can find, then bin it if it goes wrong. As for putting it on at night, it's certainly made me think again. I wouldn't even put it on when we're out of the house now. Gonna get the quietest one we can find so we can put it on whilst we're in...Safe Christmas everyone..

Franco, did you not smell it. Usually when the motor or wiring is burnt out it SMELLS.

Your washing machine, dryer, are just as likely to go on fire as your dishwasher. Never leave them on when you go out or to bed. Thankfully, appliances going on fire is fairly rare. ...dont have nightmares.

Ban Dishwashers.... product of satan !!!
used by lazy, usually ugly, unpopular people. Dont be one of them . Promote unity and harmony in your family by washing, drying and stacking the dishes as a family group. Manually.

The night they drove old dishwasher down:-

.....always use the algorithm method when want in the dishwasher trouble shooting tool department threatens civil strife.

Sorry...I'm an ugly fecker...and besides whose gonna clean the dishes after each meal, I got the wife out working on a street corner!!! :boobies

Thankfully, appliances going on fire is fairly rare.

One of the most common causes of house hold fires in America are caused from "Clothes Dryers". The exhaust hose line venting from the dryer cloggs up with lint from lack of cleaning. It then of course gets hot and begins to smoulder, shortly followed by fire.
Most homes have the cheap vinyl exhaust hose, which burns very easily. For a few pennies more they could have installed the aluminum venting and help eliminate this problem.
Empty automatic coffee pots left plugged in all day,are also subject to start on fire.
My rule is, "if your not using it,unplug it".

Aye..

I did smell something a few months ago, and we had some guy into sort it. He took all the panels off, and found loads of cobwebs etc and salt or whatever, and cleaned it all up. After that, I must admit I was surprised when the smell went, as, having trained as an electrical engineer, I know what burning electrical insulation smells like (from my various 'projects'), still, it worked ok for a few months, then just died. Coincidentally enough, we heard that since the bloke had been round to 'fix' it, he'd dropped down in the street with a heart attack...poor man. He was only in his 50s. Maybe the machine is cursed. I'm binning it.
As for promoting further harmony within the Morrison clan by all doing the dishes together...I can't see that working. Not enough room for us all in the kitchen. Recipe for disaster.

Get a Bosch, Franco. After years of replacing dishwashers bi-annually a mate recommended them and we ain't looked back since. 10 years expected life-span. Bloody German engineering again.

Den: harmony when doing dishes does not exist in our household. It was dishwasher or divorce. BTW, I /we are probably lazy, ugly, unpopular as a result. :D

Edit: Just realised I've put the hex on the damn thing just in time for Christmas!

I think that's exactly what we're going to do tomorrow. The wife has seen one she fancies, and it's a good deal. Mind you, German engineering, the AEG machine is made in Germany. We got the AEG washing maschine at the same time as the AEG dishwasher and Miele fridge, only the dishwasher has given any trouble. The washing machine has been providing sterling service, and has been hammered every day for the last 4 years. Our two boys are 4 and 6, so you can imagine how many loads a day it's getting through...Maybe we just didn't use the dishwasher hard enough?

:D

dishwasher

just keep feeding the dishwasher pork and she will never brake down.

Andy

Dishwasher - sorted ! For now.

Installed the new Bosch, and it's working grand. Happy Christmas...:D :beerjug:

The top won't fit in with the thing under the worktop, but it has got adjustable feet, so I'll get it as close to the top as possible. Doesn't seem to stick out as far as the AEG either, so should be ok;)
Still, at least I saved you a flight all the way down here to have a look.../Rob
