Ferry questions

Ferries

Will be doing Morocco April next year with my good friend GSRichie of this parish. Was going to ride through France and Spain but was considering using the ferry to Northern Spain. I see that some people on this forum have taken the ferry option, if its not a rude question how much did you pay? Every time I do quote on the ferry website it comes out at over £700 for 2 bikes and passengers. Is this right or or can it be got cheaper?

sounds right, 3 years ago it cost me £368 for 1 bike!!:comfort

It is a lot, but when you factor in the ferry cross the channel, plus fuel and tolls and a night's hotel to make up the difference riding down through France (and that's if you do 1000 miles in two days) then the difference isn't so big.

The other alternative is the bike truck thing. http://www.biketruck.com/

They may be heading that way - email them, a very freindly lot.

Good points Dave, I forgot what I might save to spend on a ferry to Spain if that makes sense.

It's one days ride to bayonne. Thats almost on the spanish border. Push on into the evening and you can be well into spain.

A lot cheaper ( and quicker) than taking the ferry to northern spain.

But then you miss out on the cabaret, bingo and scumbags on mini-cruises:D

And of course if the Bay gets a little choppy it can be an interesting 36 hours on the Love Boat :augie

Phone the Ferry Company

I have found that you can sometimes get a better price by phoning than booking online.

Ferry issues

Hi,

I am travelling to Morocco next month, but am having issues finding good and accurate ferry crossing information.

I arrive Santander on the 26/6 and want to be catching a ferry on the 28/6 into Morocco (Ceuta for preference).

The main issue seems to be that I can't book anything after mid June with Trasmeditteranea and Baleria.

Is this normal?

Am I better off just turning up and trusting to luck?

My concern is that I will be catching a ferry from Tangiers to Barcelona a week later, so I want to maximise the time I have in Morocco (this ferry will have to be booked).

Just turn up, several companies run ferries all day everyday:thumb2
Make sure you check the return timetable before parting with money as some smaller lines only have 2 or 3 crossings a day. You'll rarely wait more than 2 hours with the bigger lines

Help with ferry prices please

Trying to get a trip together to Morocco for september but worried about prices for the ferry crossing, I made a similar trip two years ago and found the crossing prices expensive for such a short crossing BUT we used one of those touts, who toke us across the road to more than likely his cousin of a cousin shop.
To be honest I forgot what we paid but it seemed about the same price which we paid on the return, where we just stopped at a shop at the port entrance in Tangier's.

Could any of you knowledgeable guys help me out with what I should expect to pay for rider and pillion + bike.

Cheers

Have a look Here We got an open return

Louis

Cheers Louis for the link, seems to be what I paid 2 years ago ;)

And a very big thanks to Baz, the lucky bugga is out ther now and toke time to answer my question by PM :thumb , (he's having trouble posting but not PMing).

Have a great time Baz and take plenty of photo's and any GPS way-points for hotels and fuel stops would be greatly welcomed :thumb
