Did the fuel mod today, and it made a big difference to filling up. Much quicker, and with no buggering about dribbling in the last bit to full.

Took about an hour and a half, but a lump of that was loosening the top crash bars so I could get the side panels off, and taking off the baglux cover. Otherwise a piece of cake to do. I used a neodymium magnet in addition to rags to catch any swarf, and and found 2min marking up the filler cap innards with a pencil before I started made putting at all back in the right place much easier.

:roll

I'm curious. I'm guessing that if you first removed panels and marked up the nozzle, etc. you actually removed the metal filler neck from the bike before drilling, so pray tell, why the magnet was then required?

I did this mod a while ago and no magnets were injured during the making of the film.

can some post a link on how to do this please. I am being thick and can't find it!

Are there any down sides to doing this?

Thanks

Not any old magnet. He's got a neodymium magnet.

It calls out to be used :D

wish I had a nedodium, nebdodadium, niberradioum... AARGGGHHHH!

wish I used a magnet I just drilled away like a man possesed... and used tissues to clear up the mess....:augie

The filler neck on my 05 doesn't come all the way out - just a couple of cm. The magnet attracts all the swarf as it's produced. Peace of mind rather than neccesity.

Go on with you. You just wanted to use your neodymium magnet.

Ah! I think I see now. I guess BumWee realised that my 06 model would be more easily modified by the owner without the use of Unobtainium Magnets if the metal filler neck could be easily removed competely and drilled in comfort on the bench. Which is what I did. And it was a worthwhile mod.
