Filtering thru Kingswells, Aberdeen... GS with panniers...

I must confess, I'm Spartacus on this one (if it was a red GSA with muffs)

't is from Oyne I commute (the long way round) and you never know when you need to camp out in the sticks Be prepared as the old boy scout motto goes...

I was heading to the Beachgrove Garden to buy twa neeps.

it does look good

but you might be able to filter quicker with the panniers off


I just keep the topbox fitted, fit the tank bag if I need a bit more carrying space and only use my panniers when I really need to.

Not got a topbox, so I tend to keep my panniers on most of the time. I've not really found them too restrictive, if the handlebars can get throught, the panniers will follow. You get used to them being there I find.

I tend not to filter too fast anyway, 20 - 25 mph works fine on that stretch (particularly this time of year).

Indeed. And to open up the debate a bit further, should one take them off when shopping at , stick them in the trolley and fill them up so as to be environmentally friendly and save on the plastic bags

That's right. It's on the way home, which is where the panniers come in handy to stock up on the evening's supplies

I've noticed that too.

I was thinking about filtering on the A720 round Embra' yesterday. Good job I stopped myself, I can't afford new panels for the car at the moment.

I must be doing something wrong (there's a novelty) - my once immaculate panniers after only a couple of months look like the iceberg after the Titanic struck. Could be a balance/skill issue.

Three months ownership = three avoidable scrapes - all my fault. Two unwitnessed, so less of a red face - squeezing through gates that were JUST wide enough if taken with care. Last time I was just congratulating myself on how manoeverable the big GS was compared to my previous sportsbike - stationary traffic coming up to a roundabout and I'd gone up the outside and was cutting back into my lane - back of a stationary transit appeared from no-where.
I wouldn't mind, but the bike had survived 12 years without a mark and they were all my fault and completely avoidable. At least it still looks smart with the panniers off.
