Just wondering how people find filtering with full panniers (metal ones) ? Do you have to be careful or are they no wider than the actual handlebars?

Cheers

I do it all the time. They are roughly the width of the bars so if the bike fits they will get through as well. I am much more careful mind especially when "cutting back in" in front of a motor.

If the front fits through then the back always has.

The bars are slightly wider than the cases so my main concern is taking out a van wing mirror with handlebars. As @Brads says be careful going around a car. Especially if you are close behind a car then decide to filter. A case could easily hit the car rear corner. Normal straight filtering no problems.

Filtering with or without panniers is fine although a mate of mine clashed panniers with a another one of our parties panniers that was parked at the pump in front in a petrol station (his left to the other right) and fell off, pmsl.....

:jes :jes

If you hear a distance thump, thump, thump then it just might be your panniers but I've found that so far if the bars go through the panniers will too. As the panniers are slung so low it's not a problem unlike sports bikes with the soft panniers up in the air.

Cheers guys that's reassuring. I guess most just keep them on all the time then.

Unless you are filtering past something like a Porsche 911 turbo that has eff off wide wheelarches just at pannier height, not me but I've seen it done

I remove mine for day to day use but leave the top box on.

Me too.

I would like to be able to quickly swap a Givi 46 litre top case with the GSA alloy case, but haven't found a quick but secure way to do it. Consequently, I hardly ever use the Givi.

Did once get stuck between to HGV rear wheels on M25 once but as soon as we moved off got a nice "boost" down the traffic lines :D and some of the roadworks on the M6 cause narrow lanes which can give you a few moments but I just take my time and wait for a gap. Otherwise no problem.
