I have seen several threads about putting an 1100 final drive box in an 1150.
Is it possible to do it the other way round?

I have a late model 1100 the final drive is knackered, I need a replacement and have seen an 1150 one but I have no idea if it will fit.
If the swap can be done the other way you would assume so but, knowing what bikes are like I would be greatfull for some conformation or not.

Bevel boxes

I've got an 1100 box on my 1150 just to lowerr the gearing a bit especially the high bottom gear this could be your prob as if you've a std gear box in the 1150 it is a pain in traffic so this mod it would be even higher so that would be the drawback, you'll do it in two hours easaly but youll need the correct large spanners and a hot air gun to melt the locktight on the swivel pins. have chansed mine back and forth several times as I don't get out much! and can now do it in an hour with a cup of tea! you'll also requuire a toque wrench or two covering a wide range and a good study of a manual.
Any doubts give it to an expert Mr S.

I did it

Yup I agree

I had my standard drive destroy itself on my 1100GS. Moved up to the 30/11 ratio (an standard replacment option from BMW) and it worked fine. I have since replaced the clutch and lots of other stuff so have taken the bloody thing off and on more times than I care to recall.
Anyway you do need a heat gun the right size hex drive, torque wrench that goes down to 7N/M (this is from memory) some people do it by feel. 2701 lock tight

and nail varnish

I use the nail varnish as witness marks for the pins and locknuts

The different ratio improved the bike no end. You don’t have the acceleration (I don’t notice this one bit) but the bike has longer legs and is better for road use.
