I have dismantled my fianl drive to check the large bearing because I had rumble from the back end. I took the advice I was given and found tiny pieces of metal when I drained the oil. Now its dismantled the bearing does not seem smooth. What do people think? Be gentle with me Iam new at this GS lark.
Many Thanks

I think you may have hit the nail on the head...........if the bearing isn't (running?) smoothly it's worn and it would be be false economy not to replace it as in my experience a rough running bearing doesn't tend to last that long. Do inspect the rest of the unit though to eliminate any other cause for metal in oil.
Hope this helps, others who have experienced similar problem will likely be able to advise you further.

your best off giving them a call to get it spot on they are a helpful bunch:thumb2

Both bits (bearing and seal) should cost about 60 quid.
Do a search on how to change them. The original bearings can be pretty tight on the hub and need persuasion.
May be worth getting a a repair quote from a dealer.

Many Thaks to all. Can I get the beaing and seal from Motorworks and if I can does anyone know the numbers.
Ta.

You'll find those particular parts are cheaper from a main dealer than motoworks - as are a lot of things sold by bmw. People always just assume that it must be cheaper elsewhere :D

Thanks Steptoe.
I dont suppose you know how much they cost.
Many Thaks at all.:thumb2
