Well thought everything was going to well. Im in Northern Ireland for the north west 200. Got back to my digs yesterday to find the final drive pissing oil out onto the floor and rear wheel......

Cleaned everything up once it hae stopped leaking to find a slow drip coming from between the where the wheel attaches to the hub..... the final drive drain plug and gaitor are free from oil so my suspicion is its a hub seal gone.

Its just had the pinion seal done 800 miles ago so im not sure whether this is a problem caused by that fix....

Am totally pissed off as my ferry is back on monday and its a feckin saturday and all the local indies are at the racing....

We where riding in the wet yesterday but i feel slightly lucky that itndid go on the road as id have been off

Anyone had similar???

Cheers in advance

Dusty

I'm sorry to say that I think the seal doesn't usually just fail on it's own as far as I'm aware. It's usually something pushing it from inside... like the bearing collapsing. Have you got any movement at the wheel? Can you see the seal sitting proud of the final drive anywhere or does it all look flush?

drop the wheel off, pull the seal and look at the bearing, if the race has collapsed it will be obvious, its a reasonably easy job to knock out the bearing and replace it and the seal, Motorworks can post the parts to you, and there are "how to's" on here and other sites.

Thanks fir the advice chaps... bikes in with a fella near ballymoney.... good find really hes an ex bmw mechanic... webhad a look at the movement and its solid... just a case of splitting it and having a look..... there is no noise that might suggest the bearing has gone etc.... going to get motoworks to send out patrs once we have an idea... cant be much else to go wrong surely....

So glad it did let go whilst i was on it... have done 1600miles this week so its had a good runnout.....lol

Sinbad thanks for the help if i can ill drop you a pm as if is just the seal i may take you up on it
