Just noticed i have an oil leak on my final drive. I think its the main seal where drive shaft connects to the final drive. Anyone on here fixed one? If so how hard is it? Any help would be great.

Has the final drive oil been changed recently? Some might have got spilled.

If the back wheel can be rocked sideways its most likely the main wheel bearing failing.

If that is ok, undo the linkage (as if you were doing an oil change) to see if its the final drive inlet seal or the gearbox output seal that's leaking. If its a light mist, simply clean it up and see what happens later.

If its the FD input and a proper leak, you'll need to consider a rebuild with new bearings. The seals are unlikely to fail unless the bearings have become slack.

Hi over in Ireland mate. I have just dropped the shaft down and the leak is def coming from the final drive inlet seal. No play on the rear wheel whatsoever. So is this easy to replace? Worst cae scenario how much for a rebuild?

FYI info BMW did that for me plus new rear bearings. Not a shock of a cost and comes with two years warranty. PM'd the price to you. That should be your worst case scenario.

not straight forward im afraid, you need some special tools to remove the castle nut,as bendy toy has said, why has the seal failed?if there is play in the input pinion the unit will need a rebuild!,however it could be corrosion on the spacer that the seal runs on,in this case the spacer would need replacing as well.
pm sent.mike

OOPs. Can't pm you. Cost was not exorbitant. Ask your local dealer. Thats always going to be the most expensive route. I did take mine in off the bike which might have saved a little money.
