My clonking was solved by taking it back to the dealer, who simply adjusted the UJ bearings in the paralever. Sorted in two minutes. Still begs the question why they went slack in the first place,

Perhaps something to do with the XXLFB sat on the bike :D

I'll have you know im a svelte 10.6stone .... or was that kilos

I took my 1150 into Allan Jefferies on Sunday & had a play on their new 1200 for half an hour, or so. Dan, their techie took it off the front of the forecourt & checked the FD. The bearing has definitely packed up & gone home so I'm pleased it was nothing further forward, like the gearbox. The rumble had got steadily worse as I rode from Preston to Shipley & I found that it was smoother as I went faster (sorry officer  ). Fortunately, there is no further damage to the crown wheel or pinion from the swarf, which I was worried about.

rear drive

i have freinds on a 1150 gs and 1150s which have both had rear drive large roller bearing break down one in czecho just after coming off motorway it dumped all the oil on back tyre , could have been a disaster , this was at 14000 miles on s and 40000 on gs funnyly enough motobins had replacement bearings and seals in stock , 1150s was done under warranty in czecho but he got nothing from bmw for spoiled holiday [4 days] while he waited for parts from berlin 100 miles away , i could have walked quicker bryan

As I'm not a sponsor I can't start a poll, but I think it would be a good idea to have one on rear end troubles...

eg problems with:
1) splines
2) bearings
3) whatever else ya fancy.

any takers?
