Finally got my hands on an airhead:
Back in 1991 I bought a brand new R100GS (red and black).. did a lot of miles on her over the next 4 years and she was a great, reliable bike. Shame I got bored and decided I wanted something else, so sold her. (H91BMY where are you now?).
So, having a R1150GSA, and now having garage space, I decided I wanted another airhead. I fancied a R80ST so was watching e bay , MCN, Old bike mart etc.... and seeing some high prices.
As luck would have it, I mentioned to a mechanic I know that I wanted a R80ST, and he replied: "I've got one for sale".
So I arranged to go and see it. It had been left standing outside for 3 years before phil bought it, but he hadn't got round to doing anything with it, and had decided he was too busy to get it sorted.
It had been fitted with a RT fairing, the engine etc were covered in oxidisation, and the frame, subframe, and every bolt was rusted, but it was all there. 35k miles on the clocks, full stainless exhaust. Mine now for £500.....Yeeehaaa !
So now the work starts: managed to strip the RT fairing off, and got the battery out and on charge....
Im not after a perfect restoration, but just want to get the old girl running, safe, reliable, and use her until I can do a full restoration at a later date.
