Finally got my hands on an airhead:

Back in 1991 I bought a brand new R100GS (red and black).. did a lot of miles on her over the next 4 years and she was a great, reliable bike. Shame I got bored and decided I wanted something else, so sold her. (H91BMY where are you now?).

So, having a R1150GSA, and now having garage space, I decided I wanted another airhead. I fancied a R80ST so was watching e bay , MCN, Old bike mart etc.... and seeing some high prices.
As luck would have it, I mentioned to a mechanic I know that I wanted a R80ST, and he replied: "I've got one for sale".
So I arranged to go and see it. It had been left standing outside for 3 years before phil bought it, but he hadn't got round to doing anything with it, and had decided he was too busy to get it sorted.
It had been fitted with a RT fairing, the engine etc were covered in oxidisation, and the frame, subframe, and every bolt was rusted, but it was all there. 35k miles on the clocks, full stainless exhaust. Mine now for £500.....Yeeehaaa !

So now the work starts: managed to strip the RT fairing off, and got the battery out and on charge....
Im not after a perfect restoration, but just want to get the old girl running, safe, reliable, and use her until I can do a full restoration at a later date.

Ride safe y'all

Dave,

I wish I could, but I still haven't worked out how to do so on this site.
Believe me, its in a bit of a state, but I hope to have it up and running soon (ish).

Hi, there, I can help you with what happened to H91BMY. I bought it from what was L and C in Tunbridge Wells back in 1996ish It was a gem of a bike, with uprated fork springs-I contacted the previous owner (you, perhaps?), who kindly sent me a baglux tank bag and cover. I enjoyed it for about six months, and had just fitted a White power BMW rear damper, which was about £450, when I came out of my house in the morning and found some thieving scumbag had had it away during the night. I was well pissed off, and had the usual hassle with the insurance company, and lost loads of money. I needed to replace it quickly, and bought a K100RT a mate was selling. Some considerable time later, I had a call from the police to say it had been recovered and was in some salvage yard in Paddock Wood somewhere. I immediately had thoughts of buying it back, so went to have a look at it. Frankly, it was pretty fecked. The fairing had been hacked off, the wiring was cut about, it had different registration number, don't know if it ran, but it hadn't done many more miles. The White Power rear damper was still on it. I thought about bidding, until I tried to source the parts it would need, and realised it just wasn't economic. I guess it may have ended up being broken for spares. I have had an 1150GS for about ten years, but if I still had the old bumblebee, it would be worth almost as much now as what I paid for it! Such is life :blast.

Just re-read post-think mine was H96BMY, which was black and yellow, thereby making the whole reply irrelevant-bollox!
