Just having a look round for new riding gear. It would seem size 44 in just about every make is not available!! Very strange. I would have thought that size would be the most popular and therefore the size that retailers would keep in stock.
The Rukka Nivala 2 seems to be in stock in a few places but it’s a bit pricey for me.
Do we have any clothing suppliers on here? If so can they shed any light on why no one seems to stock size 44” jackets?

Why not give Kate Jennings a try, at Hideout ......... https://www.hideout-leather.co.uk/

OTP or custom, along with excellent personal service.
Just been having a look. They don’t seem to do gore tex. I do want gore tex as I ride in the rain a lot. I’ve used other supposedly waterproof clothing and all I can say is that my idea of waterproof and theirs are very different. I have gore tex mountain clothing and that is waterproof. Hence my preference for gore tex gear.

You're right, @glenn2926, Hideout don't use Gore-Tex, but an alternative membrane called C-Change, made by the Swiss textile company Schoeller. This is bonded to the outer layer & has similar properties to Goretex, so it's breathable, rain beads off easily without the outer surface becoming waterlogged. It's also temperature sensitive.

As I understand it, the US company Gore are having to make changes to their product currently, something to do with pollution & ePTFE concerns, following a law suit. They've had a good run.

Potentially being a popular size it sells out. And with it being end of year for most companies, i'd assume they are keeping stock at reduced levels until the next year.
One other factor to consider is most of them run a production line for 'X' time for all sizes of that garment. So what is out there in the distribution network is all there is until the next production run.

I seem to remember C change being to do with temperature, not water proofing. IIRC Rukka and Halvarrsons used it, and loads of gear discoloured as it aged.

Perhaps it’s because it’s a popular size shops don’t have it ATM . I know lots of the smaller retailers carry less stock over winter to keep the bills down.
Have a look at intogear.co.uk, I like the look of the leatt gear.

Nowt in SPORTSBIKESHOP, nowt in infinity, not even in FC Moto de. Looked at Rev it vertical, Richa, Triumph, Rukka, Klim and a few others including Oxford. Very little choice to try on. I can’t be bothered with the ordering and returning thing.

Motolegends have the Bering Hurricane jacket in all sizes .
It’s reduced from £599 to £449.
I bought one at half price a few months back in their Sunday sale and it’s the best, most comfiest and waterproofest (😜) Goretex jacket I’ve ever had , including a few Rev It jackets and a Rukka Nivala.

Thanks, I’ll look at that.👍🏻

Overall, not bad advice, I guess.

are you just searching for the numerical size? I just looked on SBS and many makes use L, XL etc and it does not seem to be consistent across brands. Oxford has XL for a 44 inch, RST it's a L. I doubt either is very accurate!

Go to a shop.

Yeah I have noticed this. I’m pretty much a 44” chest measurement and as you point out some companies that’s size L others it’s size XL? No idea why.
I’m currently fancying the Rev it Vertical jacket and trousers. 2 layer laminate gore tex. AA rated protection and not ridiculous money. I’m going to Leeds next week so will visit the SPORTSBIKESHOP and hopefully try them on for size. That is providing they have the sizes I want.

I’d never found any Goretex garment to be 100% waterproof, not even a brand new BMW Enduroguard suit I bought, until I threw a Scott Ergopro jacket over the top of it.

Goretex/Schoeller breathable laminated membrane stuff is over rated IMO (I have both).

My mountain gore tex gear has always proved to be 100% waterproof. Perhaps it’s just motorcycle clothing manufacturers that are not as competent as the mountain clothing manufacturers?

Mine always seem to start leaking at the inside ‘pit’ of the elbow joint. I guess constant flexing plus dirt could be an issue. Cleaning and reproofing by the approved methods does not seem to make any improvement once they start to leak.
