Just bought a brand new Black GS 1150, was polishing the tank with a clean cloth, to my horror i noticed scraches in the paint, tried to T cut them out but it just made it worse, any help would be great.

you need to get some fine rubbing compound, that is slightly coaser than t-cut.
Use some good quality cloths.
Then use decent cutting polish and then some autoglym final polish.

and a small tin of elbow grease

Black is a bit of a nightmare, though.

its either clean and nice - or it isn't

Hi Joe,

What you have is known in the trade as “marring” black is a difficult colour, you also get holo-gramming in sun light (check out a big black car in sunlight). Re T Cut, no good as it contains ammonia, try and get hold of some 3M finnesit compound from Halfords then polish with some Turtle wax or similar, ALWAYS hose ya bike down before you wash or polish to remove any road grit etc.

Good luck,

TD

I've used that coloured polish stuff (turtle wax do one i think?) with moderate success on my car.....it won't touch proper scratches but it does seem to help with the tiny tiny ones......my best results have been from using that, then using MER on top......

If i were a bit of a git I'd probably say :P :dabone serves ya right for not getting the faster and smarter silver version :P :dabone but as I'm not, i'll just say good luck hope it comes out ok :D

Joe,

have you just scratched it by polishing it (with grit in the cloth or something), or have you just discovered the scratches? - your post is a little unclear...

If it's the latter, look in Yellow Pages for a firm called 'Chips Away'. They are a locally franchised business which specialise in re-touching stone chips in paintwork. They did an excellent job on my next-door neighbour's (metallic) people carrier - will come to your house or place of work and are not expensive...

Kev

ps Gloss black will be a piece of old ease to fix, too....

This is easy.

Ow me tank

Joe,

My advice to you my friend is to not worry.

I also have a black GS and the clear coat scratches very easily. This is what you can see.

Buy a jetwash to get rid of all that sratchy muck then just leave it to dry. Anyway GS's look better covered in crap/mud.

Not the answer you where looking for.
