After two years of messing about with what was a piece of crap, I now have now completed the airhead, freshly serviced and MOTed this week so ready to go.

This was an R80/7, purchased as a runner (not) it was not safe to be on the road. It was a cafe racer with drop bars and rear sets, no brakes, sticky clutch and every set of chassis bearings knackered and indeed bits missing that would have kept every thing in line.

Wheel and swing arm bearings replaced, spacers found to be missing! clutch arm was catching on frame due to incorrect engine spacing. Handlebars replaced with upright items, wiring redone as it was a rats nest, Rear sets removed and new mounts welded to frame to accommodate a more conventional peg position. Brakes rebuilt with new pistons and seals etc, during this work I discovered they had been installed upside down on the wrong fork legs. One off high level twin exhaust system (yes it runs fine without a balance pipe) fitted.

All the above faults existed on the bike from purchase from supposed reputable dealer who knows BMWs and they even had an mot on it!! It was a piss take, but all sorted proper now and looking forward to putting some miles on it.

I like that very much, well done that man!
Do the exhausts make your legs hot?

No they are fine, but have melted a few gloves turning the fuel taps off!!

How did you get on with that old R75/5 I sold you Ian?

Well..... after getting someone to go through the whole bike back to front and setting it up I got it moted and on the road. But after riding it around for a while realized that it really is a classic and quite different to ride compared to paralever bikes with disc brakes and " modern " handling . Even though it's a lovely looking bike it was a step to far to live with and needed something newer so sold it to someone local he already had a /6 series so was aware of its capabilities and loves it.
Now a basic gs such as your beauty is a different kettle of fish :D:cool:

It's great that you breathed life in to it and it's now moved on to a new owner who will no doubt appreciate it for what it is worth :thumby:
