First 100 miles on 1300 v 1250

I had a good look at them a couple of weeks ago when my 1290 was in for a service. Also test rode a 1390 Super Duke Evo, I’m very tempted. Even running in the engine had loads of go and the bike had a surprising amount of leg room and space.

Why oh why do smaller people insist on riding GS’s when they don’t have either skill or stature for such large bikes?

Well jeff, I'm not of small stature, truly. No, the thing that surprises me is that the GSA really isn't for the person of average height imo. When I bought the RS new, I got really lucky. It fits perfectly and is in fact much lighter than a GS kitted out. The GS will be fine for a spell, I still have warranty left on it so I have time to look for a lowered one. Yes it would have much smarter to buy a lowered one or simply a GS without sport suspension in the first place but that is the beauty of buying used; to find these things out. Out here in the colonies lol they don't do test rides much. This makes it very difficult sometimes.
So in summary I just have to avoid turning sharply just as I'm leaving from a stop. And not to do too much back country alone. I did in fact pick it back myself with loaded bags, with a little room to spare strength-wise .... And I do have mucho experience on bikes including serious trail riding, racing, and much touring. Been on bikes since 1967 .....

I agree and that’s the problem. When it’s working it ticks all the boxes, however I don’t know what I’d replace it with. It’s on its last warning to behave.

I’m 250 miles into the new 1300. Still settling in and getting a feel for it. I have to say, I do like the lowering suspension. Once stopped at traffic lights etc, no issues getting both feet flat on the floor. As for the hamburger button, mentioned frequently, the sales guy set it up for screen and grip heating. I still haven’t got to grips with that yet.

I never listen to what they tell me on handover anyway! I like to get home, get a brew and have a fiddle with the settings. It is normally a hour well spent.

First proper ride on my replacement gs yesterday.
Had some issues…couldnt remember how to navigate the buttons and menus. 20minutes after fiddling and getting settings the way I wanted…became second nature.
Somehow had returned everything ro factory, with eco, rain and road modes. Wtf had my Dynamic pro gone? Simple, just tick/untick in one of the settings. You can only have 3.
Now got squidgy road at minus 2 damping, and dynamic pro with minus 2, max throttle response and dialed back traction. Feeling at home again !
Roads were shit, potholes, gravel and dry salt. But the front wheel was still up. These have so much more eagerness than previous versions.

exactly....usually the Sales muppets have no clue anyway...... and agreed its time well spent to get to know it yourself!

I have friends who suffer constant problems with their bikes regardless of make. Some people are just incompetent when it comes to riding, mechanical sympathy etc

i'll be both positive and negative in the one statement. I do agree that the 1300Gs is one of the best bikes available and in my 14'000 miles to date have had some fantastic rides and been on tour in quite a few countries, however some of the issues are pretty bad.

noting Botus' comment - My second 1300 was serviced at 6000k miles and whilst in it received the AGM battery and had all of the electronic suspension replaced including the pump. It broke down a few weeks ago with another issue within 20miles of getting it back and spent another three weeks in the dealers until last week (hence my sarcastic surpise at getting 80 miles without any issues).

fingers crossed that's it sorted as I have done 450miles this week without issue and loving it.

I can confirm this is a great technique, and can be applied to finding a partner too!

1600 miles on the 1300GSA so far, love it - most competent bike I have owned to date!
