At last, my first ride out in 2012. After spending Christmas in Portugal the days here seem so dark and depressing, I was therefore pleased to be invited out on a run with five others on Saturday. Despite a dark and gloomy start we set of from Wooly Edge services for an investigation of the roads towards Scunthorpe. Not an area many normally consider and one we Leeds folk very rarely visit. To use the back lanes you need to be aware of the rivers, once you realise how few crossings there are its quite an interesting area.
We failed to reach our destination of Grimsby due to talking so long at the stops. The day never developed to blue sky but did not fall below 8c until we were sitting inside Squires cafe drinking tea.

Not far from my neck of the woods. There are some great roads From Woolley to sunny scunny.
My first ride of the year was this morning only into Wakefield at half four for work. On the plus side I got to see just how good the hid lights the mrs got me for Xmas where.
Let's hope this mild weather carries on.
There are some very entertaining back roads to Buxton to be had from Woolley excellent scenery, stream crossings and all sorts of bends.

Based in Leeds we are lucky to be able to ride any direction 360 deg. yet I only use 270 deg, I never think of riding south east at all. Thats a lot of country I have never explored. I know there will be some good riding there, the bits I saw were interesting and I enjoy the sea side. I will try again when I have a full day.

Next time you would like to venture into this next of the woods, let me know if poss I could show you the hiddenparts of the Lincolnshire wolds thats a best kept secret, people think Lincs is flat n boring, but its has some of the best biking roads around and durring the week you have them to your self, well that is with every other guy who's working shifts :thumb......

Stay lucky ullygully....

Thanks for the offer, we will take you up on that offer some time in the next few months. It needs to warm up a bit before we venture so far. Last week it was 8c all day. Today it was -5 and dry when we set off for the N Yorks moors, by lunch it had risen to 2c falling to -1 by tea time. Only covered 180miles between cafe stops. Im now sitting with my back against a radiator trying to get some heat in to my old bones.

If any fellow Wakey region Gsers are up for a ride out sometime then post up as I'd be glad of the opportunity to ride with some others from around here. I ride mine down to Sheffield most days which is a bit boring down the M1.

First ride out today for 2012.

Bike fired up first time :thumb2

Kept in an unheated garage with no battery charger :bow

Ended up at Squires - it was heaving

Bring on 2012 :D

It was my first 2012 ride on the CBF and I had to ride up to Hawes to collect something. By ek it was freezing! Really wished I'd worn an extra jumper and silk glove lines.

ullygully is right about North Lincs but like sooty09, I don't ride there often because North Yorkshire is a wonderful diverse county.
I rarely ride in South Yorks and hardly ever in the Peaks because it's a pain to get to and the roads I've experienced are frequently policed or with cameras..... it doesn't matter if I'm riding over the limit or not - I just don't want to keep looking at the damn speedo!

Me too, we were out in the Dales - 6 of us

Some were camping in Horton in Ribblesdale, so met up & I led the ride for 100 miles, through Wharfedale, Littondale, Swaledale up to Kirkby Stephen & back through Mallerstang (past your statue) to Garsdale & into Dentdale then back to Horton via Ribblehead
Great views, but by eck, it were cold
Must have missed you on the roads

I missed you guys as well .. Had first run out yesterday, bike fired up first time :clap :thumb2 , so off to Devils Bridge for a cuppa, run round the lanes and back home to Settle :aidan

Cracker of a day :D

Any one out today .. the camera vans are on duty this weekend

Dragged out the GSA to go for a service during the week while down in Coventry as I've garaged her there for the winter, no liners or jumpers, 40 miles in 17.5 deg, warm as toast, weird for February:)
