There are so many companies out there willing to sell JUNK claiming it will perform miracles... However the BBpower chip does sound interesting and could really open up some options.
Did you fit the chip as a result of the running issues? Maybe installing the chip has screwed the ECU? Have you moved back to the original chip?
The BBPower chip certainly isn't junk. No miracles are claimed but it does make the engine 'punchier'. I fitted one to my first 1150GS (2000 model) and loved the way it rode - I also had a K&N filter, larger snorkel, bigger diameter intake tubes (between the airbox and the TBs), after market can etc. Not to mention alloys and stickier tyres. The next two owners also loved the way the chip made the bike run (although all mods except the chip, K&N and y-piece were removed before sale) - quick but also very smooth. How much quicker than standard it's hard to say - when you spend money on performance modifications there's a tendency to see more of an improvement than perhaps is really there - you see what you want to see.
When I bought the bike I have now I told myself that I 'needed' another BBPower chip. The bike wasn't running right and I thought the chip might improve it. It didn't, but the chip has nothing to do with the problem and certainly wasn't the cause. I currently have the standard chip fitted.
If you are interested in the problem my bike (and a couple more 2002 models) have been suffering check out this thread:

- there's too much to repeat here!
There is an ECU on fleebay at the moment but its listed for a 1150 RT which I believe BMW changed the maps on to increase the top end BHP and shift the peak tourque further up the rev range?
Thanks, but I found an ECU on eBay a week or so ago and it turned up today. I'll fit it tonight and keep my fingers crossed.
As far as I was able to determine all the 1150 ECUs are the same part number so on that basis the RT one would fit a GS. I certainly can't see a heavy touring bike being tuned such that peak power and torque are shifted
up the rev range - that wouldn't make sense. Anyway, it would take more than a map change to do that.
If your ECU is humped there is a good chance it is operating in limp mode?
I don't believe there's a limp-home mode built into the 1150 ECU - they're not that advanced

My guess is a dry joint on either the lambda or temperature sensor circuits but I'll never know.
If it is operating in limp mode then it should flag up an error code if you can check the diagnostics? This would at least save spunking dollar on an ECu you may not need?
There are no error codes held in my old ECU - it's been checked. Whatever the problem, it's too subtle for the stone-age diagnostic capability to record.
If you plan to flog that chip I maybe willing to give it a go?
I may do that in the new year as I'm not really so bothered about the extra few bhp as I used to be - will PM you to give you first refusal before advertising it to a wider audience.
