Why do we never find out these things until it's too late :blast
I think it's a conspiracy by our fathers ;)

Shame ya can't make it but, as I said, we'll do the Blooms soon :bounce1

Despite having been thwarted with my recces over the past couple of weeks due to the weather I'm delighted to report that a local(kinda sorta) Tosser has jumped into the breach & arranged our visit with the chippy :thumb2 They're expecting us & will have laid in extra portions for Hairnet600 & myself ;)
So "thanks" Vireo for a job well done :beerjug:

I'm off tomorrow to check out the roads, some of the higher one may still have that 'white sand' clinging to the edges :aidan

did a few f the back roads andare still brutal. anything on a height are stillvery icy so be careful next weekend

Jockser, rememebrrrr the last thing we want is everyone stopping at the same spot for coffee, it would violate the tradition...on the other hand it might save time and worry, so let's try it!
(I'm sure he is just about to tell us where to go..."how to route ourselves" so to speak.)

the uncertainty index

might be going, but from Limerick it's unlikely that I'll join up for the East coast run.
I thought Clonmel, Carrick on Suir, Waterford, Passage East - Ballyhack ferry and then on to Kilmore Quay.
So what time do you hope to arrive in Kilmore Quay and what's the chipper called - so that I can get served and eating before the horde arrives?

Well Saturdays recce was a bit eventful but I got through it.
The Sally Gap road is still firmly closed & I wouldn't be confident that it'll be much better by next Saturday :(

Heading up from Kilkee :

There's a car-sized gap at the side of the barrier & while I was stopped at the bottom a car came down so I thought I'd have a looksee.

Unfortunately about a mile later it became apparent that it still wasn't open for PTW's :

So, discretion being the better part of valour, I set off back down the hill to go around, rather than over, to Laragh.

There's still ice on the Blessington Lakes :

I'm redoing the route to bring us over the Wicklow gap instead cos it's in much better shape :

After that the road inproved considerably (for a while !).

A good flow under the bridge at Aughrim :

Most of the smaller, less travelled, R & local roads are badly damaged by the Christmas snow / ice & now by the snowmelt & heavy rain on Friday.

There's lots of these (and much worse) about :

The Slaney at Bunclody is doing a very passable impression of a lake :

It was a nice dry run down & eventually I arrived in Kilmore Quay in scorching January sunshine :

I stopped here :

And had some of these. And gorgeous they were too
IMG_0304.jpg

I only had chips cos (a) I didn't want to spoil it for next week & (b) when I stopped for a cuppa in Bunclody there was a lovely apple crumble which just happened to have my name on it :augie So I ended up with no room for Beer Battered Haddock :comfort

Full details of timings etc as soon as I've 'corrected' the route :thumb2

Fark in Hell! i know a lot of those Dublin / Wicklow roads / but NEVER seen them like that!

Fair Play Mister Routemeister - :bow

Thank you. :thumb2

er... you will be leading us wont ya? :augie

(so if he disappears into a hole - we can stop before we do :blast )

:hide

shall i bring a rope? :nenau
