Hi Guys, just a heads up that the 1st of July is the start of the "Marching Season" there are several Marches commemorating the 1st July 1916 the commencement of the Battle of the Somme. In relation to the proposed route there will almost certainly some sort of commemorations in Newtownards, Millilse and Portavogie and Probably Ballywalter and Ballyhalbert if following the outer bit of the Ards Penninsula. If starting from Dundonald (were I live) its easy to string together a route to Ardglass and Tollymore (Via Slieve Croob?) and not go near any towns or at least towns that might have marches. Don’t think it would be an issue to do the proposed route on that day but something of which to be aware?

found a ting in telegraph from last year and they all seem to be happening in the evening - if this years is likely to be the same?

hopefully be well south by then

how close to them do they shut roads and stuff?

Mostly do happen in the evening but sometimes you will encounter bands/lodges forming up marching to get to their destinations.

mods please delete ta
