Well, it has been a frustrating day in the garage. I think that the 850/1100R mudguard is probably not the best way to go.
The first couple of pics show a comparison between the two.
Third picture shows how the holes are a long way out
Fourt picture shows where I drilled a new hole
Picture five shows it partially fixed.
At this stage I slid the caliper into position and the flared bits of the new mudguard foul the brake lines. Arse.

First picture shows some tape along the first cut line I tried. It still fouled the brake lines.
Second and third pictures show my second cut lines (with the first bit removed)
Fourth pic shows how I got the mark for the position to drill a hole to allow the third fixing. Difficult to see, but there is a long bolt threaded into the hole with some marker pen marks around the head. This is actually the bolt that goes through the pillion grab handle which also hold the rear mudguard on. It is the perfect length and thread.
The final pic shows a spacer through which the long bolt will run.
As you can see, the side view really does not look great.
Having got this far I will spray it and whack it on for a while. When it is black it may not look so bad and will do me until I find a better alternative.
I really thought it was going to work quite easily, but life is rarely simple is it!
