Greetings:)

I have bitten the bullit after finding a pretty good deal at Motorad central in Glasgow and I pick my fully loaded GS up in a few weeks:clap

2 Questions for you all:

It has the full Bmw Luggage already but the top box is fitted in the usual place and I have seen them fitted in place of the pillion seat. Now my question is how difficult is it to move to that position yourself? does it need any further brackets or the like or is it just a simple case of removing the pillion seat and attaching the box base plate in its place?????:nenau

Another dealer I recently visited said that it was a pretty straight forwards job that took about 25mins but the dealers I am getting the GS from does not know how to do it:rolleyes:

the second question is how much can you get BMW clothing and helmets discounted by?? Motorad has offered me 10% on all th kit I want but I am not sure if this is good or not, I know that BMW do tend to try and control prices a bit so can I push for more????

Cheers

Ok second question first. 10 % is the norm from dealers. :blast

As for the top box question if your talking about the GS Vario luggage then you need an optional kit to move the top box into the passenger position, it its a GSA with the BMW luggage it's pretty straight forward.

Which bike is it and who the hell had no idea? Tell me it was Andy I can wind him up or months if it was :aidan

Welcome m8 - I have just got an Adv and didn't know you could move the top box :nenau:blast

I looked at the pillion mounting option but my dealer told me that every time they sold one the buyer found the rear seat fitting a nuisance and came back to buy the rack fitting kit.

It seems the main probloem is its in the way when you mount/dismount and although, in theory, it improves the CG of the bike, in practice it makes no real difference unless you intend to load the box with lumps of steel.

Cheers,

I had thought about getting my leg over:rolleyes: but for the 20 odd quid the kit costs I will give it a go anyway as it means I can keep the top box on and still get the bike in my bikesafe:o

The dealers is Motorad in Glasgow and to be fair he said he thought it could be done but had never been asked before (me thinks its a small dealers?)

:beerjug:

Just to close this off the part no for the kit isC47.54.7.688.336 from BMW and its £19.70.

The kit attatches to the base plate and means it can be slotted where the pillion seat was. Been told its better if you have a back rest on the top box though and that while its easy to whip off and replace the pillion seat it does take 20mins to refit the box in the usual place as you have to remove the top box rack??
