I've made an adapter plate to fit a Vario top box to the GS Adventure.

I can't live without a top box, and whilst waiting for BMW to get their ar*e in gear and deliver one for the Adventure, I've had to make something - works a treat. Thought I'd share it on this forum. Pix below.

This uses existing mountings on the Adventure - no holes drilled on the bike. I used 2 lengths of 6mm thick 100mm x 100mm aluminum angle and held it together with a 4mm thick aluminium plate, M6 bolts & Nyloc nuts. Used a disc grinder to shape it, and bolted a BMW Vario mounting plate bolted to it to finish. Held onto bike with 4 x M6 nolts & nyloc nuts.

Aluminium cost £20 cash, and BMW plate was £18.

OK - so it ain't exactly pretty, but hopefully its temporary.

Just ring up any metal merchant. I found a local one on www.yell.com, by searching for "steel stockholder" or "aluminium stockholder". Took me a couple of phone calls, went to see one, told him what I was trying to do and he suggested the ally bits as per my previous post.

Sorry, but not going to get involved in making any - its easy peasy to make up. However you are welcome to have a look if you want. I'm in Chiswick, West London.

I'll be selling this ally adapter & plate when I eventually get my Adventure top box...

Thanks for the inspiration.

After extensive R&D effort (15 mins and a few beers) I've decided to go for the "I'm in a hurry and am more of a bodge artist that you" version

We'll see on the trip to Swanage tomorrow, if it will all end in tears as the topbox goes bouncing down the road, but that won't be the first time it has done it
