Five things to hate about the 1300GS

I think I paid £9k cash for my new R1150GS in 2002, with lots of extras including luggage, alarm etc.

Allowing for inflation, that translates as £18.5k (or thereabouts) today.

£23k is indeed taking the piss.

And I bet your 1150 wasn’t recalled before you had even collected it !

The problem I have is that I can't find another bike as good as the GS and trust me I have tried other makes.Ive had 3 GS's and apart from an early battery issue on my latest 1250 they've all been trouble free.

Exactly the same here,

I’ve looked at various other options, other adventure bikes as well as tourers, even came close to buying a Goldwing tour, but I just haven’t found anything better suited to my needs, use and preference

Not saying it’s the best bike, but it’s the best bike for me, and wifey, at the moment

Exactly this :thumby:

Plus ... Being an unsympathetic mechanical imbecile, he is never going to understand the workings of the Gear Shift Assist Pro system :blast

Pretty much like most people these days! Except he gets paid to do it for a living :DD

Even without the reported shortcomings at the salty side of 20k that's me out thanks very much. I thought my 2020 1250GS TE Exclusive was a tad expensive but the 1300 is a whole different level. As has been said before BMW have taken advantage of PCPs and the "Premium" tag led by Ducati rinsing their buyers and the effect covid had has enabled them to put the price up on their best selling bike, no doubt the acountants have done the number crunching and are confident that even so the demand will still be there.

What’s there to understand ?
The quickshifter is superb on my Tracer.I didn’t need a degree in quantum physics to be able to use it .
But then it’s only a level 3 quickshifter, not a Gear Shift Assist Pro, which is obviously so much better.

1000 miles in and i think it's a fantastic bike , but i am a 100% sort of a guy not a 90% ( never called myself a guy before , won't be doing that again) :D

I'm talking about the Slaphead Fuckwit in the video

But I can see how you might have thought I meant you

Think realistically im out too having been sat on the fence on one after a test ride.

I dont do pcp and didn't flinch when my 1200TE was £13500 in 2014 (available extras were pretty much alarm, luggage, spoked wheels and not much else) and my s1000xr £14000 in 2016, but its getting a bit silly now, anything they can get away seems to be an extra at inflated prices split out over about 3/4 packages.

It feels like a rip off at pushing 22k to get the bike how it should be with some luggage, and i dont like feeling ripped off.

I guess for the time being theres better bang per buck to be held elsewhere, might look in a couple of years when the bugs are ironed out, and they inevitably start making some of this stuff standard.

I don't do PCPs either. They were already starting to take the piss with the GS prices when I paid 16.5k for mine in 2020 and carried on largely under the radar with the 1250, but they've come under the spotlight a bit now with the 1300. I've got a nice new 1250RS SE sat in my garage that was less than 16k and even that is expensive compared to it's competition but I can live with that.

Out of interest , how much would a fully tossered 1300 be on PCP ?
I bet less than 10% of people buy their bikes outright.

I'd hate to think. The other thing that's crept in under the radar is the TE is no longer the full package, if you want that you need to add the extras to your order, which of course will be worth not a lot come trade in time, but the next owner will appreciate your deep pockets.

Didn't Teapotone mention some numbers I cant remember how specced up his bike is ?

There's an example here 4 years at 4000 miles pa which doesn't seem a lot of miles really. A 'basic' TE would cost about £12000 in finance/deposit payments and then hand it back/px or pay 11k to keep.
