Oh FFS,

Just went to move the bike, lots of flashing lights on the dash,

and just clicking from the starter...

battery is OE now just over 4 years old ....

do i just buy a new one and be done with it, or soldier on with the old one ( i prefer the former option)

Next question how do i get the fecker out?

ive released the strap, but the push up and pull bit?

The battery, battery and tray, not very clear, any pointers ?

*edit* out, what a faf, on the optimate now, lets see what it sayeth in a few hours lol

The optimate wont tell you if its failing and Id suggest if the voltage has been run low for a while you would be best getting a new one.

The battery has probably fucked itself trying to lock the petrol cap.

:thumby:

Funny enough, i did think of that in a roundabout way, is the bike not going to sleep, when it should.

Typical ive had a look, and if i remove the upper part of the battery tray, i can get an Odyssey P535 to fit. (one sitting in the corner0

trouble is will i void my warrannty if i remove parts of the bike ;)

I may just order a motobatt, and have it here on tuesday

I would think Batteries like discs and pads are consumables or are you referring to modifying the bike?

4 years is a good life for an OE battery. Oh and putting it back in is more of a faff than taking it out unless you know the ‘trick’.

I contemplated dropping the Odyssey 535 in that i bought for the hexhead then sold

it will fit but FT (very FT) but to do so i have to get the battery tray out,

remove the clipon upper part, which is narrower for some reason , trim 3 ribs off the Odyssey and would be good to go.

However i dont know if then it could be used as a cop out clause for voiding the warranty if anything went wrong

So that idea is shelved

My options now are an MBTZ14s which is a like for like size replacement - complete with 30mm spacer

Or the MBYZ16 which is 30mm bigger height wise than stock (loose the 30mm spacer) it brings the amp hours up from 11 to 16 and the CCA from 190 to 230

Ive got a10% voucher from M&P so would only cost me £54 delivered

4 years is a charmed life for an OE battery. Oh and putting it back in is more of a faff than taking it out unless you know the ‘trick’.

Is probably more accurate...............

We whipped a duff battery out of pal’s WC on Brussels ring road, and it just slid out and replacement went in just as easy.

(Unless BMW have “improved” the design since then........ :blast)

I only got 3 years out of mine, so at 4 years, you were on borrowed time. You have done the right thing replacing it.

There are two vertical plastic lugs at the side of the battery panel. There is a third in the centre at the bottom. The trick is to lift the battery and the battery panel plate up far enough for the vertical lugs to be clear of their retainers. A broad flat. Loaded screw driver in the bottom to lever the panel and battery up does the trick for me.

I only managed 16 months out of my OE!!! 3 and 4 years is doing really well in my book.

not riding it enough :D

I think, that may have helped it's demise.

It's had a couple of short runs during the lock down,

and a couple of starts and small runs in the garden, to in hindsight top up the battery ( clearly not) lol

I left it on the optimate for 10 hours yesterday, it still says charging. 12.0v when i did a check

Ive stuck it back on this morning to see if it will get to running a discharge charge check - it's no problem as such, the new one should be here tomorrow

then i can carry on farkling ;)

You could try parralleing it up with another battery whilst on the charger but Id say the cell have gone below economical recovery
