Flat Battery.

I think the only way to revive the battery once the software has shut it down is to jump start it with another 12v battery or a optimate charger on mode 4 ? I believe
When I say jump start the battery I mean disconnect it from the bike and apply 12v to the battery . This will wake it up so it can be charged

Man came out. Boosted it with a mobile battery pack, and then mains directly into the van, took an age to get the battery to turn its self back on. But after about 35 minutes it fired and all is good in the world again.

I have great faith in my Optimate. No alarm. No fancy stuff.

But, the battery (never removed) on my my 10 year old steed, with 56K miles, has served me well since day 1.

Has lived on the charger when not in use and winter hibernation is usually 4 months.

Would it have lasted without a charger? I’ll never know.

Optimate 1. All you need 👍🏽

Did you have any error messages ? I had quite a few . I think it’s all about load shedding . They’ve all cleared now as I’ve ridden the bike and turned off the ignition a few times

Why oh why do people use trickle chargers? 🤷🏻 I have never ever ever used one. What am I missing?
If you have a bike with (for example) a tracker, that draws current all the time you have little choice, unless you ride very regularly all year round. My V4S tracker drains the battery in a couple of weeks - less if the bike is in a location with poor tracker signal.

Interesting. I really didn't imagine they would draw so much, if anything. Are the trackers OEM or aftermarket?
Now I see that having a trickle charger making sense...

After market but dealer fitted in the case of my V4S but the BMW OEM one on my 850GS also drained the battery over time, so that too was kept on an Optimate. My Turban has no electronic trickery at all, so doesn't need one...

Seems like bit of a software cockup. One way or another we'll eventually find out what the real cause is. I can see how having a tracker might drain the battery, but wouldn't that be true of a lead acid battery?
I'm interested in all of this because right now I definitely have my sights on the 1300, but maybe in gonna have to wait for the 1350 😄

That’s exactly what I did, first 1300 of mine wouldn’t start after bringing it home due to a dead battery. 2nd 1300 was getting errors due to the voltage drop between switching on and starting.

When it was last in they put an AGM battery for free. If you read the latest manual it says lithium batteries are not used in colder countries.

If you think you have a problem ask them to change it - they do it on request.

bike batteries have little more capacity than an HP7 in a dead remote

most cars with 100amp/hr battery can't see 2 weeks without help - why would you think a bike's electrics would be any better

your earlier point about never using battery support nearly had my jaw on the floor

Why do people keep calling maintenance chargers "trickle" chargers!, they're not trickle charges. Maintenance \smart chargers (bmw or Optimate etc. ) can be left on, trickle chargers can't.

Truckle chargers provide a constant low rate of charge;, maintenance chargers "maintain" the battery and monitor it's state they shut off then restart charging when needed.

Is a truckle charger something to do with dairy product tariffs?

Only just seen your post.

What can I say. I have never ever used a battery 'trickle charger' 'maintainer' etc. My bikes go through standing with no use for weeks, then I jump on it (always after a over over to check/change fluids, plugs etc) and ride free thousand miles in one go. While away with no luggage fitted, I enjoy some tracks (summer, absolutely nothing technical!). Then it brings me home, gets used for the odd errand or short lasting commute.

Reading all the recent posts. My thinking is, the later bikes are heavily dependent on a variety of electrical systems. This might explain having the bike on a 'trickle charger'.

Meanwhile, I think with care, the alternators are fine and maybe with a battery upgrade, have zero problems running accessories. All without this supplementary charging... Trackers being the caveat, as they would definitely be a culprit in accelerated discharge

clocks, alarms and modern overly complex electrical systems that stay awake for a bit till x minutes have passed to allow silly convenience features to do nothing sensible, then add in joke quality last for 18 month batteries - are the main driver of fun on cars

bikes won't be any better these days

Get a NoCo Genius10 charger, if that can’t fix it it’s fucked.
