OK I wear an Arai Signet GT which I've just replaced with an identical helmet. The first one did around 50,000 miles so I think I've had my monies worth. The visor has lasted the life of the helmet however in February this year I fitted a Fog City Pro-Shield and have found that, just like visors of old, it is susceptible to small scratches which disperse light. The function of the Fog City itself is fantastic and having ridden in some fairly foul weather only snow causes any misting it's just the resistance to scratches that's a problem.

I've just seen the Pinlock system which appeals as the insert is not a permanent fixture and therefore if is scratches faster than the main visor it is easily replaceable.

Now my question; is the Pinlock as effective as the Fog City in keeping a clear view?

Thanks folks.

Dave

No point on PinLock - it fixes the layer from two spots only, meaning there will be unavoidable scratching between the visor and layer if you open it and wind turbulence (=deformations on both cases). Tightening the pins, as manufacturer suggest, doesn't help much. Dust, sand etc small bits go between the visor and layers in time anyway, so pinlock certanly doesn't help saving your visor.

My pinlocked visor has already relatively fuked visibility already after one season, maybe i can get another half out of it max, while i had Fog City gluable previously that did 3-4 seasons easily. Pinlock visor and layer both tend to get extremely quickly fekked visibility if you do offroad and gravel roads like i do here.

Glued-on like fog city leaves no gap between the visor and antifog layer. Thus there is no scratching on any deformations or vibrations between them and no dirt can penetrate between the layers. Overall it's much more simple and vastly more superior design-idea, IMHO. Also glued on type of layers tend to be thinner that are more healthy for your helmet's upper visor's seal on opening/closing contact. Antifog layer easily outlasts the visors own lifespan anyway - it doesn't get scratched inside as much it gets from outside (bugs etc) that the visor takes.

fog city

I have never tried pinlock but fog city has always been great for me a pain to clean but small price to pay.

A bit of a thread hijack but has anyone tried fitting a fogcity to a Tour-X? I have offered up my AGV visor with a FC over the TX visor and it looks like it would work, so is it worth a try?

I;ve used Pinlock for years and think they're great! :thumb

No problems at all with scratching however I did have one of the pins break once although it was 5 years old!

Once fitted I never remove it.

Fog city in my opinion are good but seem to distort in really cold weather!

Yes not a problem! Just template it first, mark the edges, where it touches the visor with cellotape, before you peel the backing off, snug as a bug! :thumb

Never had a problem with pinlock. Never fogs, never scratches, wouldn't change for anything else :thumb

Just got the prosport fog city (if you see what I mean - different make). It's photochromic too, less distorting than the real Fog City, and was £9 from fleabay - I'm very impressed. I got the biggest one (mailed them and asked) - fits the Tour-X just dandy - also have one in the System IV.

Pinlock for me, much better than the Fogcity both in ease of fitting and effectiveness.

Don't suppose you can recall who the seller was? I have fitted and made a hash of the fog city type so need another one for the tour x.

Used pinlock and fogcity on Arais and pinlock on Schuberth S1.

On the S1 it was difficult to make the pinlock fit well, but nothing that didn't stop it from working.

The fogcity on the Arai has worked great. I've got one that's been on for a good 4 years with no problems at all. Easy to keep clean under running water and a bit of fairy liquid.

The pinlock on the Arai is just as effective for anti-fog. Cleaning is a bit more difficult because water gets behind the insert, so you have to take it off every time.

If the visor didn't come with pinlock inserts, I would just fit an anti-fog. I would certainly not buy a pinlock visor (except for S1 where you have no option).

I use Pinlock with NO issues.

But then I change my visor at least annually, and often use an iridium one in the summer, also fitted with Pinlock.

But 5 yrs from one visor?? It must be scratched to hell by then.

They don't however, stop your specs from fogging up in the winter.

Arai visors are top quality and I always soak the visor before cleaning so I don't get the fine scratches that cause problems from oncoming headlamps. In fact the old visor, with Fog City, is on my new Signet and the reason I'm asking the question is so I can decide what to fit to the new visor that came with the new lid.

Cheers

I've used both and I prefer the pin-lock in my Shoei to the fog city in my Sport Integral.

You might avoid scratches from cleaning, but how do you avoid the abrasions that come from the normal run-of-the-mill shit that floats about?

How do you clean it when you're out?

Another vote for pin lock here...

I'm well pleased with it and I have a clear and a tinted inner visor for use as required, the taking off/putting on and cleaning issues are a non-event for me.
