Foggy glasses?

I've been trying to find something to stop my glasses fogging for a while (can't wear contacts).

I tripped over this stuff a little while back and have been trying it out...

They also seem to do lots of other interesting things

I can now flip my system 4 visor down as I leave the drive (the double glazed style) and don't need to lift it until I get to work. It takes a little practice to get the stuff on properly - I find the bottle and wipes works best. There's even a little video on the Fogtech site to show you how to put it on. There's some very minor effect at night, but much better than having rain running down the inside of the visor.
They even claim it can be used directly on the visor (but leave a gap at the top so it doesn't draw water in.

I'm currently involved in a trial for a new, visor "rain shedder" product by the same company. The initial batch was very good and I'm now waiting for the tweaked version based on feedback from around the globe.
Its going be called RainKote or some such Yank bollox name

I use Bob Heath Visor Spray on the inside of my visor (Arai Quantum/f) (don't put it on the outside as it stops rain beading ) and on sunglasses worn underneath . Spray on from small can, wipe with soft tissue. Apply before each ride (i.e. morning and evening commute) in cold wet winter , weekly other times. Works for me and the small can is £2.99 and lasts ages and ages.

Tried it the other day as this was a real problem for me.

An amazing result - the glasses stayed clear, even though at one point in slow traffic, conditions were bad enough for the fog city insert to mist up.

Can someone tell me if 'bollox' is a good thing?

(My company, MotoSolutions, makes FogTech and we are testing a proposed new product with the help of fellow riders like 'simonm')

Well the -ahem- "RainKote" trials are going well. The new formula is almost done. I think we have solved the freeze/thaw separation issue. Give us about 2 weeks and the next batch should be out.

simonm, I think you are going to like it. Much easier application and I think the performance is improved a bit e.g. water shedding.

Now let's get to the fun stuff. The name 'RainKote'.

I have some mixed feelings about it, too. The name states the main product attribute. But it does miss some other aspects. For example the product helps keep bugs and grime off to some extent. (DirtOff was not an option!) And rain is not the only cause for water on your lenses. How about ocean spray? Or water sprayed in industrial processes? Firefighters? etc.

The k rather than c was driven by the fact that the .com URL was available. The squatters that owned Raincoat wanted a small fortune.

Some other thoughts were plasticoat, vistech, visotech, vistatech, clearcoat, cleartech in all their spelling variations. But they all had problems. I am just not that good at this naming business.

If you have any other ideas, let me know. Seriously. We are not yet married to this name.

themenz - here in the UK the expression "the dogs bollox" infers a good product. However, if you're going for international branding then Dogs Bollox may mean something else in certain eastern parts of the world (ekg Korea) where canines are part of the regular diet.

How about "No More Mist" ?

This Fogtech stuff leaves streaks which I find very distracting. Got the bottle and the 'towelettes' but not impressed so far.

Do people use a spare pair of old glasses just for riding and coat them with this stuff? I couldn't stand the smears on my glasses for ordinary use in the home and office.

Hi Admiral,

I found it a bit tricky to start with - same thing stripes and smears. I think it was because I was putting too much on. Also, trying to spread any excess out made it worse. I've found that putting the tiniest amount on the bottle pads and wiping across once gives a reasonable coating. Also, if my glasses aren't 100% clean then it smears more. I've also found that you can gently polish the smears and it retains some of the anti-fog property (just not quite as good).

I find it harder to get the right sort of coverage using the towelettes ( ), more tendency to streak, so I only carry one with me in case of 'emergency'.

And no, I'm only using the one set of glasses with small rimless lenses.
