foggy speedo R100GS

Following quite a long ride in fairly heavy rain a couple of weeks ago the inside of my speedo glass covered with condensation and it's still there. It's a new mph speedo (green numbers) recently bought from Motorworks with currently around only 800 miles recorded. I understand that some of the old "green" clocks had a problem with condensation behind the glass but I thought BMW had mostly sorted that by fitting a gore-tex membrane inside the housing. I am aware that M/works sold their last speedo to me and that no more are available from BMW so there's no chance of them replacing this one. So is there anything that can be done to get rid of the moisture from inside and also prevent it happening again?

Not really I'm afraid

Usually gets in around trip rubber..maybe using a hair-dryer on the glass/clock will ease the problem.

....or up the cable from the gearbox - check speedo cable for damage/connections and your gearbox oil for moisture

Many thanks for those. The rubber button at the top is obviously new and seems to fit tightly; and the rubber boot at the gearbox end is new and zip-tied around the cable so hopefully that'll be ok too. Mine's the older type GS (pre-1990) with just the small fly-screen and a big gap around the headlight which leaves whatever's inside open to the elements. So I'm wondering if the water's getting in to the back of the speedo.

a hairdryer and lots of patience worked for me on a z400 I used to own. When i had eventually dried it out i put some mastic round the glass and round the bulb holder underneath and that worked for 2 years until one night some cnut smashed the speedo and the rev counter in and also walked off with all my plug leads. Dunno why anyone would wanna do that to harmless lil old me but theres nowt as queer as folk.

Sorry I cant think of any other way apart from taking it off and sticking it in the oven for a short period of time...

Mine did that riding through some fog about a month ago, rode about 20 miles through not very thick fog out of that to a clear day and the speedo was still in the fog for the next couple of days.

you could do what we used to do prior to the retrofitting of the goretex membrane on the old K series clocks and that is to drill some small 2mm holes in the back of the speedo casing
