Hi,

Has anyone had problems with their fork dust seals following the fork travel and remaining on the stanchion and not returning with the forks?

I noticed the right hand one was up the stanchion when I filled up with fuel last weekend and pushed is back down into place. It came back up during a run today.

I mentioned it to my Dad earlier on when I was washing the bike down and he wandered over to the bike to have a look at what I meant and now the left one had ridden up the stanchion. :blast

Is this something I should be worried about - is it a real problem. (08 1200GS) - might ring the dealer in the morning and see what the say.

Thanks

Nigel

I'm not too sure of what you are describing - but if the the black rubber bits are not attached to the top of the (lower) aluminium fork legs, but are somewhere above, on the chrome tube, then that is a problem.
Not too serious in the short term, because the fork tubes are just sliders, with no oil inside, as is the case with "normal" forks, but long term it could result in damage due to grit, etc., getting into the bushes.
You say it's an '08 - so it's still under warranty - take it to the dealer, then any future problems with fork wear are on record.
But probably a little gentle persuasion would push the seals down so that they seat into the fork lowers - I have never had them out, so I don't know, but I would think they are only a friction fit into the fork lowers.

I phoned the dealer this morning and casually mentioned that I had heard that there had been some problems with front ESA shocks and could they check mine frame number.

After consulting their list/computer they confirmed that I did need a new front shock and also something with the rear light. They are having it in on Friday to sort it. I assuming the fork dust seals were moving further than they should due to the shock not shocking!
